Adopt Sharik (Шарик)

Mixed Breed · Male · Adult · 6 years

Zaporozhye, shelter "Give a paw, friend". Sharik is simply a handsome guy, young, healthy, vaccinated with a combined vaccine twice, castrated, already trained to walk on a leash. He doesn't have a hind leg, it was injured by an unqualified veterinarian. Sharik is currently in the shelter and is very hoping to find a home. Sharik's story is sad - they injured his leg, how much pain this little one endured. Some unskilled veterinarian performed surgery like osteosynthesis, the rod was not inserted into the bone but ran next to it in soft tissues and permanently damaged the knee joint, injuring the puppy. The puppy grew up, the rod continued to deform the leg, and a lump formed at the site of the fracture. It wasn't easy for us to make this decision, but after removing the rod, we realized that the leg would never work, it hindered Sharik from living normally, running, and when standing, the destroyed knee hurt and Sharik cried. We decided on amputation, also Sharik was diagnosed with cryptorchidism, both operations were done at once. God, give him strength to endure all this, give him happiness to find a home and people who will love him and he will be happy.

About Sharik (Шарик)

What life with Sharik (Шарик) looks like

Sharik (Шарик) is a medium-sized adult mixed breed dog waiting at Happy Paw Zaporizhzhia in Ukraine.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

Frequently asked

Adopting Sharik (Шарик), answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Sharik (Шарик)?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Happy Paw Zaporizhzhia handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Sharik (Шарик) on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Sharik (Шарик) if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Happy Paw Zaporizhzhia will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Sharik (Шарик) already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Sharik (Шарик) isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Happy Paw Zaporizhzhia early rather than rehoming privately; they know Sharik (Шарик) and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (UK). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
