Adopt Shelly

Mixed Breed · Female

📍 Current Location: Graz Shelly is a mixed-breed female dog, likely born in January 2025, who was found abandoned and brought to the animal shelter of our Hungarian partner organization. She now lives in Graz. The black beauty with a small white chest spot enjoys gentle cuddles, bonds closely with her trusted people, and looks forward to play and training sessions. She has already learned the most important things about living harmoniously with humans. Shelly was house-trained from the first day and can already spend an appropriate amount of time alone at home after previous exertion. She feels very comfortable in the garden. She runs around there happily and has fun with anything that can be used for play. She neither digs the garden nor bites branches. Shelly is already very good at being called back to the house. In the house, she is now accustomed to all sounds and routines, but still enjoys a quiet retreat. On familiar walks and excursions in nature, Shelly is usually self-assured. As she moves around naturally, she would also make a good running companion. Leash training is being worked on diligently, and there have already been some successes. After intensive car training, Shelly now happily gets into the car and rides politely. With a bit of practice, Shelly could also become a relaxed office dog. The dear little dog is often admired for her heartwarming appearance on walks, and she is familiar with cyclists, joggers, skateboarders, cars, lorries, and has no problem with any of them. Whether it's storming or raining, it doesn't matter to her, and if it's thundering outside, she sleeps peacefully on the sofa. Shelly would feel comfortable anywhere, except in the middle of the city. With a garden where she can run around, she would have a special joy. However, more important than a garden is that her people have time for her. At the beginning, it might be that her original insecurities resurface for a short time due to the adjustment in her new family, but in the end, she possesses a self-assured and eager-to-learn personality that will soon come to the fore after an adjustment period. At the foster home, Shelly lives with a very old female dog, and there are no problems with the other female dogs from the family that come to visit. However, Shelly likely learned to defend her food at the animal shelter. Therefore, in a multi-dog household, attention should be paid to occasional food jealously (separate feeding). Shelly finds cats that do not run away currently terrifying. She does not dare to approach them. Cats that run away, she would chase.

About Shelly

What life with Shelly looks like

Shelly is a medium-sized adult mixed breed dog waiting at Animal Care Austria in Wien.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇦🇹Adopting from Austria

Austrian shelters follow the federal Tierschutzgesetz framework: adopters sign a Schutzvertrag (protection contract) committing to the animal's welfare. Spay/neuter, microchip, and vaccinations are included; fees typically range €150–€350.

Frequently asked

Adopting Shelly, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Shelly?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Animal Care Austria handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Shelly on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Shelly if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Animal Care Austria will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Shelly already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Shelly isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Animal Care Austria early rather than rehoming privately; they know Shelly and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
