Sherlock, m, kastriert, geb. 11-2020

Mixed Breed · Male

Sherlock is likely a shepherd-mix dog and possesses the corresponding traits: He reliably alerts to potential threats, pays close attention to his surroundings, and reacts attentively to any changes. Therefore, he needs people who have experience with or at least an understanding of livestock guardian dogs and can provide him with clear, dependable leadership. With his primary caregivers, Sherlock displays great affection, cooperativeness, and a strong bond with humans. Cuddling is high on his list of favorite activities. He enjoys working alongside others, knows basic commands, and walks nicely on a leash. Overall, he’s a eager-to-learn dog who appreciates both mental stimulation and structured routines. At the shelter, Sherlock shows an open and friendly attitude toward unfamiliar people. However, this behavior could change in a new home, so it’s crucial to clearly communicate from the very beginning how to handle visitation situations. Sherlock gets along well with female dogs and tends to let their “moods” roll off him, simply “smiling” them away. With other male dogs, Sherlock’s compatibility within a dog group is limited. Sherlock was previously placed in a home but unfortunately had to return to us. The addition of a new family member naturally required more attention—attention that Sherlock ultimately lacked. As a result, he began making decisions on his own and increasingly took on the role of protector for his family. Dog encounters became challenging when accompanied by a stroller. Here at the shelter, however, he once again walks very well on a leash and handles dog encounters with ease. For Sherlock, we’d like to find a home with a garden, ideally with people who enjoy working with him and—who, if possible—already have experience with livestock guardian dogs. On some days, he just likes to lie in the sun, keeping an eye on our shelter; this opportunity should also be available to him in his new home. Of course, we’ll continue to support his new owners every step of the way, offering guidance and assistance whenever needed.

Frequently asked

Adopting Sherlock, m, kastriert, geb. 11-2020, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Sherlock, m, kastriert, geb. 11-2020?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. TiNO — Tiere in Not Odenwald handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Sherlock, m, kastriert, geb. 11-2020 on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Sherlock, m, kastriert, geb. 11-2020 if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — TiNO — Tiere in Not Odenwald will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Sherlock, m, kastriert, geb. 11-2020 already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Sherlock, m, kastriert, geb. 11-2020 isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with TiNO — Tiere in Not Odenwald early rather than rehoming privately; they know Sherlock, m, kastriert, geb. 11-2020 and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
