Shirley

Mixed Breed · Female · Young · 1 year

♀, born ca. December 2024, friendly - still shy Shirley is a ca. December 2024 born Kokoni-mixed-breed female dog with a shoulder height of ca. 48 cm. Shirley is the sister of Sheila, who has already found her happiness in Germany and blossomed there. Now, Shirley could also be brought to safety in Bulgaria – she currently lives with an elderly woman in the countryside around Sofia /Bulgarien, who cares for over 200 animals and unfortunately is overwhelmed, despite her best efforts. For a sensitive, insecure female dog like Shirley, this is not a place where she can find peace and build trust. She simply fades into the background in the crowd. Shirley meets people cautiously and shyly at first – but she warms up when given time, patience, and a loving trust. A social only-dog, with which she can orient herself, would be particularly helpful for her. Because Shirley is absolutely compatible and seeks the company of other dogs. With her people, she wants to explore the world, experience quiet, exciting nature walks, be together on the go, and belong. Staying alone is still difficult for Shirley and should be practiced in small steps, at her own pace. Shirley looks forward to closeness and connection when trust is there. Of course, she still needs to learn the doggie basics, like walking on a leash, indoor potty training, settling down, and also being alone. But Shirley is a attentive female dog and with sensitive, adapted training, she will manage. Who gives Shirley the chance at a real home and goes through thick and thin with her? Then she will develop into a lifelong friend and a great companion on four legs. In the city, we do not see Shirley's home. It should be without hustle and bustle, so there should not be any small children for the time being to avoid strengthening her insecurity. Shirley is vaccinated, neutered, microchipped, and rehomed with a Snap-4 D-Test. She is located outside of Sofia/Bulgarien. The adoption fee for Shirley is 480 Euro. About Shirley

What life with Shirley looks like

Shirley is a young adult mixed breed dog waiting at Ein Freund fürs Leben e.V. in Berlin.

An young adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Shirley, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Shirley?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Ein Freund fürs Leben e.V. handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Shirley on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Shirley if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Ein Freund fürs Leben e.V. will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Shirley already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Shirley isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Ein Freund fürs Leben e.V. early rather than rehoming privately; they know Shirley and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
