Adopt SHOTO

Male · Adult · 5 years

SHOTO arrived with us in December 2023 because his owner was no longer able to properly care for him. This little one came as a puppy from a shelter in Romania and was brought to France to be adopted when he was five months old. He therefore grew up in a family but unfortunately had a difficult start to life and remained fearful and mistrustful. Since then, Shoto has left the shelter twice, only to return after a few days... However, what we know for certain now is that Shoto is calm when alone, does not destroy things, and does not bark. He is a dog who needs his space, reassurance, but also gentle guidance in order to evolve calmly. However, he should not be excessively cuddled, as he may tend to test his human. A well-defined and strict framework will be necessary for a good acclimatization. Patience and understanding are the key words for a successful adoption. It is necessary to dedicate time to him and to be motivated to educate him with the help of a preference for an educator/animal behaviorist. Once he feels confident, Shoto is friendly, cuddly, and playful! He is also a little gourmet! He has been socialized with other animals of the same species, so he gets along with some dogs. However, cats are not his friends. Given his fearful temperament, we will not place Shoto with children. We are looking for a stable and kind family for our beautiful Shoto!

About SHOTO

What life with SHOTO looks like

SHOTO is a adult dog waiting at SPA Colmar in France.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇫🇷Adopting from France

French refuges follow the SPA framework: adopters sign a cession contract that includes sterilization, vaccinations, microchip identification, and rabies passport. Fees are typically €150–€300. Many refuges work with rescue transport partners for cross-border placements.

Frequently asked

Adopting SHOTO, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about SHOTO?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. SPA Colmar handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw SHOTO on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt SHOTO if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — SPA Colmar will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is SHOTO already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if SHOTO isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with SPA Colmar early rather than rehoming privately; they know SHOTO and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (FR). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
