Adopt Sibu

Podenco · Male · Young · 2 years

Adopted through the animal shelter, April 2026 animal shelter Apama: Update March 24, 2026: There are 5 new photos and a new video of Sibu added. Update October 13, 2025: A new video of Sibu was added. Update July 4, 2025: Sibu is a very easygoing dog. He gets along well with everyone, both dogs and people. He is affectionate and enjoys attention from the volunteers and a scratch on his head. Sibu shows no prey drive. Input December 7, 2024: On November 19, 2024, Sibu appeared at the entrance of the animal shelter in the pitiful condition you can see in the first three photos. He was so thin and so hungry. He swallowed the food without chewing!!! Small Sibu wanted to get into the animal shelter. We opened the door for him and he went in by himself. Within a few days he had already gained some weight. He trusts people but not really other dogs and if one of them gives him a scary look he runs away. He never defends himself. He has already found his group of dog friends, he likes to play with them. He is very friendly towards them but also very submissive. Sibu loves a nice dog bed and never ruins it. He already knows how to walk on the leash. We are certain he was not good for hunting and that's why he was discarded by the hunters. We hope we find Sibu's new owner soon and that they give him the love he deserves. Also Sibu hopes very much that this wish will come true soon.

About Sibu

What life with Sibu looks like

Sibu is a medium-sized young adult podenco dog waiting at description in AL Ridderkerk.

An young adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇳🇱Adopting from Netherlands

Dutch shelters typically require a household assessment and an adoption contract. Animals are routinely sterilized, microchipped, and registered in the national pet database (NDG) before placement.

Frequently asked

Adopting Sibu, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Sibu?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. description handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Sibu on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Sibu if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — description will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Sibu already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Sibu isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with description early rather than rehoming privately; they know Sibu and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (NL). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
