Sid

Belgian Tervuren · Male · Adult · 4 years

Our Sid came to us via another organization with the hope that he would have better chances for rehoming. He likely only lived on a chain before and knows almost nothing. Absolute experts are needed. Sid is not a dog for beginners or people who just want to take their dog for a leisurely walk. Sid needs to be challenged and have tasks. This is currently very difficult because he is basically hyped up 24/7. Of course, he is also under-challenged, but concentration is not yet his strength. When taken out of the kennel, he chatters his teeth and nips occasionally. Not out of malice, but it can give a bruise. He simply can't seem to figure anything out yet. He is very positive towards people, but on the leash, he is quite a catastrophe. He hardly ever calms down and doesn't know what to do. With other dogs, he goes to them. So far, he has usually been more interested, but it can also become problematic. In essence, one has to start from scratch with Sid. People with experience with this breed are sought, who have endurance and patience. They show Sid what is right and what is wrong. They are the ones who want to work with him and are consistent. And those who are also there for him when he needs love, because he definitely needs it, having not learned much good so far. He enjoys attention and cuddles. With the right people, he might not be the easiest, but he will be a great companion and friend. Our staff will be happy to advise you. Kind regards Manja Bretschneider Postscript 23.04.2020: Our Sid is currently being treated for an eye infection. Additionally, we have begun introducing him to female dogs. He has been out with the private dogs Ilvi and Hope. We are incredibly happy to say that Sid is making progress.

About Sid

What life with Sid looks like

Sid is a extra-large adult belgian tervuren dog waiting at Tierheim Wuppertal in Wuppertal.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. A larger dog like this one needs daily off-leash time when possible — a fenced yard or regular access to safe walking trails. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Sid, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Sid?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Tierheim Wuppertal handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Sid on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Sid if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Tierheim Wuppertal will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Sid already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Sid isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Tierheim Wuppertal early rather than rehoming privately; they know Sid and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
