Silas (m)

Mixed Breed · Male · Young · 1 year

Silas - finally seen. Silas is one of those dogs that easily gets overlooked. Not because he's not special - but because he never learned to stand out. The beautiful male, born in 2021 and about 58 cm tall, currently lives at the private animal shelter ADOR in Botosani, Romania. When we met him during our visit in May 2025, he immediately broke our hearts. On previous visits, he had never caught our attention. And that's exactly what we are looking for: the quiet ones, the invisible ones, who have spent their whole lives at the shelter and never got a chance to be seen. Silas lives with two other shy dogs. For safety reasons, his kennel is located in the back, inner area of the animal shelter. There he is protected from conflicts and bullying by other dogs that unfortunately quickly arise in an animal shelter with around 200 dogs. But this protection comes at a price: Silas lives practically in the dark and gets far too little of the world. The attention and interaction he so desperately needs, can't be given to him by the stressful animal shelter life. Yet Silas is a real treasure. A small bunny paw on four legs. Over the years, he has never shown aggressive behavior. He is friendly, gentle and incredibly cautious. When you approach him, he often doesn't know how to react. Petting is foreign to him. But when you move away again, he comes behind you curiously. He wants contact. He wants to belong. He just doesn't know how yet. We are firmly convinced that Silas likes people. He shows it in his quiet way. What he lacks is a calm environment where he can finally arrive. The constant stress of the animal shelter and rejection by more confident dogs makes it difficult for him to gain trust and develop. Therefore, we are looking for an experienced home with people who can read dog language and have understanding for a shy dog with it. People with patience, heart and a safe place in their home. People who do not expect Silas to be able to do everything right away, but are willing to let him discover the world at his own pace. We want to finally get Silas out of the darkness. Who will give this wonderful dog the chance he never had? In case of serious interest, we look forward to your message. Please only contact us if you already have experience with dogs and are willing to give a shy dog the time it needs. Because Silas has waited long enough. SILAS is spayed/neutered, multiple vaccinated, dewormed, chipped and of course in possession of an EU passport when leaving. Contact: SILAS will be placed through the animal rescue organization Tiernothilfe Casa Katharina e.V. - with pre-control and protection contract. The association naturally complies with §11 (Animal Welfare Act). Even after adoption, we will continue to support you - for humans and animals. SILAS travels to Germany and arrives in 91278 Pottenstein, where he would also like to be picked up. There is a secure area available

About Silas (m)

What life with Silas (m) looks like

Silas (m) is a small young adult mixed breed dog waiting at Tiernothilfe Casa Katharina e.V. in Nürnberg.

An young adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Silas (m), answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Silas (m)?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Tiernothilfe Casa Katharina e.V. handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Silas (m) on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Silas (m) if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Tiernothilfe Casa Katharina e.V. will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Silas (m) already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Silas (m) isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Tiernothilfe Casa Katharina e.V. early rather than rehoming privately; they know Silas (m) and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
