adoption requirements adoption process Now request this animal!Simon has found a home! His story: 26810 Westoverledingen. Simon is a special little male dog. He loves his people so much that he never wants to be alone. Simon was found alone in the mountains. But at first, he didn't want to be secured, but with a bit of patience and some treats, he gained trust and could be secured. He then came to the public animal shelter in Bistrita. Here, he didn't have to wait long and found a foster home in Germany with our Nadja. The little guy is very active and friendly, at first a bit shy. He gets along well with the other dogs in the foster home. He has already met small animals, horses, and cows and shows little interest in them. His people are more important to him. Simon has no problem with children aged 12 and up. However, these should be dog-experienced and treat him accordingly with respect. Although he loves his people very much, he also likes to take off to explore the world every now and then. His new family must be very careful. Simon is so special because he doesn't want to be alone at all. He must always be near his people, otherwise, he loudly shares his distress until his people are back with him. Maybe he already had a family in Romania who abandoned him, or he ran away and couldn't find his way back home, we don't know, only that Simon has very big loss fears. Simon is about 1.5 years old and has a height of approximately 35-40 cm, the perfect size to be everywhere. The little Simon had an undescended testicle (cryptorchidism). He was already operated on in Romania. Currently, he is receiving physiotherapy because he has muscle tension in his lower back area and sometimes walks curved. He doesn't know basic commands, potty training, and walking on a leash still need to be practiced. Simon is in the middle of puberty and will surely want to test his limits. Simon wishes for a home where he never has to be alone. He wants to accompany his people everywhere. He would be happy about long walks. Not only physical exertion is important, but also mental stimulation. A garden would be great, but it must be very well secured, even a balcony must be well secured. Doors and windows should always be closed in his presence. A confident single dog would fit well. Children should be older. Simon is neutered, microchipped, vaccinated, dewormed, and treated for fleas. He has an EU pet passport and will only be placed after a positive match. Many thanks to Ute F.! You gave Simon his name! A big thank you also goes to Elke, who took on a monthly sponsorship for Simon.

About Simon

What life with Simon looks like

Simon is a extra-large young adult mixed breed dog waiting at Ein Herz für Streuner e.V. in München.

An young adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. A larger dog like this one needs daily off-leash time when possible — a fenced yard or regular access to safe walking trails. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Simon, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Simon?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Ein Herz für Streuner e.V. handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Simon on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Simon if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Ein Herz für Streuner e.V. will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Simon already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Simon isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Ein Herz für Streuner e.V. early rather than rehoming privately; they know Simon and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
