Sirály

Mixed Breed · Male · Adult · 6 years

Sirály is a mixed breed kitten born in 2020. She was rescued from a pet that had been abused and exploited. A video of a staff member at an animal shelter showing dogs being killed or starved to death was posted on Facebook. The Szurkolók az Állatókért foundation immediately reported the video to the Tolnai Municipality. After a quick investigation, the authorities deemed the shelter operation as inappropriate and suspended the sheltering for 8 years. Additionally, three of the dogs were euthanized to prevent them from breeding. The foundation then took the dogs to other organizations. A staff mixed breed kitten arrived at our shelter. Sirály became her name. Multiple signs of past injuries are still visible on her. While these injuries will heal, we cannot determine the extent of the emotional trauma they caused. She is gentle, giving, and hopes to leave her past behind. We have started her rehabilitation, and she has received her missing microchip and vaccinations. After neutering, she will be suitable for a family home. We are looking for a home that will give her the time to settle in, as her past cannot be erased in just one moment.

About Sirály

What life with Sirály looks like

Sirály is a small adult mixed breed dog waiting at Noé Állatotthon in Budapest.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

Note from the shelter: Rehabilitation needed due to past abuse trauma

🇭🇺Adopting from Hungary

Hungarian shelters operate at high capacity given the country's stray population. Animals leave sterilized, chipped, and with a passport. Many shelters coordinate transport to Germany, Austria, and the Nordics.

Frequently asked

Adopting Sirály, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Sirály?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Noé Állatotthon handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Sirály on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Sirály if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Noé Állatotthon will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Sirály already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Sirály isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Noé Állatotthon early rather than rehoming privately; they know Sirály and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (HU). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
