All dogs Sirius Print Published: February 8, 2026 Date of Birth: estimated around August 2015 Gender: female Breed: Terrier-Mix Disability: incomplete paraplegia Height (shoulder height): 45cm Weight: 14.9kg Sirius was featured on the TV show "hallo hessen." You can watch her segment starting at 27:15 here: Sirius was given up by a private owner. Her owner is unfortunately seriously ill and can no longer take proper care of her. Despite her disability, Sirius is nearly unstoppable outdoors, and it's surprising how quickly the little female dog can move on two legs. Sirius is a very alert and quick-witted girl. She has quickly learned how to move and run with her wheelchair. She happily and willingly gets into the wheelchair. Of course, her endurance still needs some training, but this is not a problem as she enjoys going for walks and is very interested in her surroundings. Due to incontinence, she loses stool and urine uncontrollably, so her bladder should be checked and emptied at least twice daily. She is conditionally compatible with other dogs, but she also has no problem being an "only princess." There should be no cats in the new home. When it comes to food, one should be careful around other dogs, as she likes to keep it for herself, but she shows no problems with people. Toys are not an issue. Sirius should preferably be fed with gastro food, as otherwise, she might get diarrhea. Please come and meet Sirius and see for yourself the joy of life this little female dog has. For more information, we are also available by phone. Heike and Sascha Weißbeck, Marcel Schäfer, Susanne Steinbach-Arenzn, and Claudia Ksienzyk are Sirius's sponsors. Thank you very much for that!

About Sirius

What life with Sirius looks like

Sirius is a senior mixed breed dog waiting at Tierheim Alsfeld in Germany.

Senior dogs settle in faster than younger ones. They want a soft bed, predictable meals, and short, sniff-heavy walks rather than runs. Many senior rescues bond deeply within weeks because they understand exactly how good a stable home is. Expect occasional vet visits for joint or dental care.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Sirius, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Sirius?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Tierheim Alsfeld handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Sirius on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Sirius if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Tierheim Alsfeld will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Sirius already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Sirius isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Tierheim Alsfeld early rather than rehoming privately; they know Sirius and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
