Skeeter

Mixed Breed · Unknown

"Skeeter" is a fully alive, young pup who just wants to move, run, and burn off energy! Overflowing with energy, he will need to be able to physically and mentally let off steam every day to find his balance. And why not practice a canine activity with him, to allow him to expend energy while learning and strengthening your bond? On the education front, everything needs to be relearned. "Skeeter" will need to learn to walk on a leash without pulling, basic commands, to stop jumping on people (his big specialty!), and most importantly, to find moments of calm. Solitude will also be a lesson to be relearned step by step because it is today a very difficult situation for him to manage. "Skeeter" is a bit brusque in his interactions with humans. He may nip when he is too excited. There is no aggression, it is simply a young dog who needs a clear, strict, and patient framework to progress. He is very gentle and friendly with everyone at the shelter, and he just wants to reconnect and create a strong bond with his human. If there is a garden, it must be enclosed by a sturdy, high fence. We do not yet know precisely how he gets along with other animals. If there are children in the home, we will prefer adolescents who will be better able to handle his overflowing energy. Post-adoption canine training support is strongly recommended to help him become a more attentive and balanced adult. If you know the breed or are accustomed to dogs, "Skeeter" is waiting for you for exciting adventures full of energy!

FR·Show original

About Skeeter

What life with Skeeter looks like

Skeeter is a large adult mixed breed dog waiting at SPA de Bordeaux et du Sud-Ouest (SPA 33) in France.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. A larger dog like this one needs daily off-leash time when possible — a fenced yard or regular access to safe walking trails. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇫🇷Adopting from France

French refuges follow the SPA framework: adopters sign a cession contract that includes sterilization, vaccinations, microchip identification, and rabies passport. Fees are typically €150–€300. Many refuges work with rescue transport partners for cross-border placements.

Frequently asked

Adopting Skeeter, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Skeeter?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. SPA de Bordeaux et du Sud-Ouest (SPA 33) handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Skeeter on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Skeeter if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — SPA de Bordeaux et du Sud-Ouest (SPA 33) will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Skeeter already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Skeeter isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with SPA de Bordeaux et du Sud-Ouest (SPA 33) early rather than rehoming privately; they know Skeeter and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (FR). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
