Skye

Mixed Breed · Male · Senior · 9 years

Skye, born in 2019 and about 58 cm tall, is a dog who must have been through a lot, though we don't know his whole story. What we can see is that he carries a good deal of uncertainty. He doesn't come up to the gate, doesn't let himself be touched, and keeps his distance. This isn't aggression; it's caution. You can tell how much he struggles inside: his frantic tail wagging, his unprompted barking, his nervousness. Yet again and again, something shines through that touches the heart. Small moments in which he seems curious, almost against his own will. Friendly. Open. As if he surprises himself. Skye is not a dog who lets himself fall into strangers' hands right away. But he is also not one who simply "doesn't want to." He can, if he is given time. If no one pushes him. If one understands that trust is not automatic for some dogs, but a path. What Skye needs: a calm, stable environment. People experienced with dogs who can handle insecurity. A regular daily routine that gives him stability. Patience, understanding, and the willingness to let him arrive at his own pace. With these conditions, Skye will have the chance to develop his potential. For behind his caution lies a dog who wants to be seen. One who can learn that closeness is nothing threatening. One who may one day even walk proudly through life at the side of his people. Skye is looking for someone who not only looks at him, but understands him. Skye is neutered and will be vaccinated, microchipped, and placed under a protection contract after a positive preliminary check. General note about our dogs: Our dogs in Romania are visited regularly so that we can continually reassess their behavior and development. These personal impressions help us greatly in presenting as accurate a picture as possible of each individual dog. However, we would like to point out that a dog may show itself differently in a new environment, with new people, new routines, and new impressions. This is completely normal and part of any process of change. Many dogs even open up more quickly at home and show sides of themselves that were not visible at the shelter. Our assessments are therefore based on current observations, but they are not a guarantee of every behavior in the new environment. They are meant to provide orientation and show how the dog presents itself at the shelter, and what potential lies within it. We are convinced that with patience, understanding, and a loving environment, every dog can find its way and continue to develop positively.

About Skye

What life with Skye looks like

Skye is a senior mixed breed dog waiting at Vierbeiner in Not e.V. in Germany.

Senior dogs settle in faster than younger ones. They want a soft bed, predictable meals, and short, sniff-heavy walks rather than runs. Many senior rescues bond deeply within weeks because they understand exactly how good a stable home is. Expect occasional vet visits for joint or dental care.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Dogs and cats typically leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with an EU pet passport.

Frequently asked

Adopting Skye, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Skye?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Vierbeiner in Not e.V. handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Skye on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Skye if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Vierbeiner in Not e.V. will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Transport is usually a separate cost, so ask for the exact figure before you commit.
Is Skye already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Skye isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Vierbeiner in Not e.V. early rather than rehoming privately; they know Skye and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
