Beautiful 7 month old Skyla is looking for a new home through no fault of her own. Skyla was purchased, along with her sister, by owners who were unfortunately given poor advice by an unscrupulous breeder and had little experience of the Akita breed. While the sisters got along well as young puppies, they have now reached adolescence and, as is not uncommon in the breed, same sex aggression has developed. With both girls now also coming into season, tensions have increased and fights have broken out between them. Managing life with the sisters permanently separated has become too difficult for the family and they are sadly looking to rehome Skyla. Sadly, Skyla has also experienced the challenges often associated with siblings being raised together. While not every pair of littermates is affected, growing up side by side can sometimes result in the dogs becoming overly dependent on one another, missing out on developing confidence and independence as individuals. As they mature, this can also contribute to conflict between them, particularly in breeds where same sex aggression is more common. Skyla can be an anxious young girl and may bark when meeting new people or faced with unfamiliar situations She will benefit from patient owners who are happy to go back to basics, helping her build confidence in her own abilities through positive training, careful socialisation, and gradual exposure to new people, places, sounds and experiences. With time, consistency and understanding, she has every opportunity to develop into a confident and well-adjusted companion. Skyla is reported to be confident, but reserved and aloof, liking her own space and affection on her own terms. To give her the very best chance of success, Skyla is looking for a home with the following… To be the only pet Teenagers aged 16 years and over. Secure garden with robust 6ft fencing (she will not be suited to life in a flat) Previous Akita experience will be essential, along with a commitment to ongoing training and understanding that she will need time, someone calm and assertive with patience and consistency to settle into her new life. For now, we’re looking for experienced adopters who can see the potential in this lovely young girl and are ready to give her the fresh start she deserves.
