adoption requirements adoption process Inquire about this animal now! adoption requirements adoption process Inquire about this dog now! Smiley was repeatedly seen roaming the streets of Zalau. No one came looking for her, and of course she had neither a microchip nor any other identification that could have provided clues to a home. Eventually, she caught Andras's attention multiple times, and he could no longer ignore her fate—so he decided to take her in. Now Smiley is waiting at our private shelter in Zalau. Where she originally came from remains her secret—but everything suggests her most recent memories are of the streets of Romania. Perhaps she was abandoned; perhaps she never knew a real home and has had to fend for herself since the very beginning. A life marked by uncertainty, hunger, and the constant struggle to find safety somewhere. Maybe she sought shelter where none existed, or learned to watch people cautiously from a distance without ever truly belonging. Smiley is a young female dog, approximately 1 year old, with a shoulder height of about 60 cm. She has beautiful, soft fur in warm brown and golden tones that give her an especially gentle aura. Her darker markings create an expressive contrast, while her light chest and friendly eyes further enhance her affectionate appearance. Smiley combines elegance and natural charm in a striking presence that immediately catches the eye and stays in one’s memory. Smiley is a very playful and cheerful female dog who enjoys human company and loves being petted. She is open, friendly, and curious—entirely typical for her young age. She has already learned to accept the leash and walks on it, though she still needs a bit more practice and confidence in handling it. With patience and loving training, she will continue to develop positively and, in a stable and supportive environment, grow into a well-balanced and wonderful companion. Smiley gets along well with other dogs and shows herself to be social and open in her interactions with her fellow animals. Smiley is currently in the midst of puberty—a particularly formative phase in a young dog’s life. During this time, many things are tested, questioned, and reorganized. Boundaries are pushed, stimuli are perceived more intensely, and emotions can shift quickly. That’s precisely why she now needs people who meet her with calmness, patience, and loving consistency. When Smiley moves into her new home, everything will be new to her: sounds, routines, rules, and life within a family. Step by step, she must learn what it means to be a cherished house dog. Clear, yet always positive and fair training is especially important during this time. Attending positively oriented dog training classes can greatly support both her and her humans, helping her gain confidence and orientation. Like all young dogs, Smiley needs not only physical exercise but also mental stimulation. Shared walks, scent games, little puzzles, or playfully learning commands all promote her development and simultaneously strengthen her bond with her people. Especially during puberty, a good balance of calmness, structure, and meaningful mental stimulation is crucial. We are looking for a loving, empathetic home for Smiley where she will be welcomed as a full-fledged family member—people who enjoy accompanying a young dog on his journey into life, providing him with security, and growing together with him. Smiley has everything it takes to become a loyal, joyful, and wonderful companion—she just needs the chance. Smiley and you—could that be a match?. This animal is vaccinated. This animal is microchipped.

Vermittlungsvoraussetzungen Vermittlungsablauf Jetzt dieses Tier anfragen! Vermittlungsvoraussetzungen Vermittlungsablauf Jetzt diesen Hund anfragen! Aktuell lebt Smiley in unserem privaten Shelter in Zalau.

About Smiley

What life with Smiley looks like

Smiley is a large adult mixed breed dog waiting at Ein Herz für Streuner e.V. in München.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. A larger dog like this one needs daily off-leash time when possible — a fenced yard or regular access to safe walking trails. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Smiley, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Smiley?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Ein Herz für Streuner e.V. handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Smiley on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Smiley if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Ein Herz für Streuner e.V. will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Smiley already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Smiley isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Ein Herz für Streuner e.V. early rather than rehoming privately; they know Smiley and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
