adoption requirements adoption process Now request this animal! adoption requirements adoption process Now request this dog! Smilla has found her home! Her story: Smilla could travel to Kiel to her foster home in February and has settled in well despite initial insecurity. She gets along very well with the male dogs and shows social and compatible behavior in handling. The approximately 10-month-old female dog is currently about 40 cm tall and is expected to remain medium-sized. Visually, Smilla is a special sight: Her predominantly white fur with elegant black spots and her expressive head with warm brown accents make her a real standout. Her little "flappy ears" add an extra charm. In everyday life, Smilla shows clingy and cuddly behavior towards her primary caregiver. She clearly enjoys having toys for the first time in her life and is discovering the world of a family dog step by step. Additionally, she is already house-trained and walks well on a leash. In the outdoor area, Smilla still reacts insecurely to loud noises but is making continuous progress. She needs people who can provide her with calmness, patience, and clear guidance to feel secure. Age-appropriately, Smilla also tests boundaries and tries out new things – a normal behavior for a young puppy. With loving consistency, structure, and positive reinforcement, she will successfully navigate this phase and develop into a balanced companion. For Smilla, we wish for a home with people who enjoy accompanying a young dog on its journey into adulthood, giving it orientation, and growing together. Smilla will be neutered, microchipped, vaccinated, dewormed, and flea-treated with an EU pet passport for her new home. Thank you to Stefanie B. for the nametag sponsorship. As of: 27.03.

Vermittlungsvoraussetzungen Vermittlungsablauf Jetzt dieses Tier anfragen! Vermittlungsvoraussetzungen Vermittlungsablauf Jetzt diesen Hund anfragen!

About Smilla

What life with Smilla looks like

Smilla is a medium-sized puppy/kitten mixed breed dog waiting at Ein Herz für Streuner e.V. in München.

Puppies need routine, gentle socialization, and roughly two short outings a day for the first year. The first six months are the formative window — house-training, leash work, and quiet exposure to traffic, other dogs, and unfamiliar people happen now or not at all. Expect early-morning wake-ups and a few months of chewing.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Smilla, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Smilla?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Ein Herz für Streuner e.V. handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Smilla on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Smilla if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Ein Herz für Streuner e.V. will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Smilla already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Smilla isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Ein Herz für Streuner e.V. early rather than rehoming privately; they know Smilla and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
