Smilla (w)

Mixed Breed · Unknown · Young · 2 years

SMILLA has really had an extremely bad start in life. Born somewhere in Romania in March 2024, she was most likely abandoned with her four siblings by the roadside of a motorway together. It seems they were also physically abused. SMILLA had a lower jaw fracture. This has healed very well and no longer causes her any problems. And it makes her especially endearing with her funny snout. Life leaves scars – we hope that her scars will now write her a happy life. Her current biggest concern is that no one falls in love with her, because so many want small dogs and Smilla, with her approximately 57 cm, is not a mini. Her two sisters, Greta and Hanna, as well as her brother, Milo, were already able to travel to Germany, where they found wonderful families. The German animal welfare workers write after visiting SMILLA: "A great little dog. Always in a good mood and very popular in the group. She is almost always around people on the premises and even jumps up in joy sometimes. But when petting her, she becomes very calm and enjoys it. She is touchable everywhere, full of energy, and can also be very gentle. A really great dog!!". Can we make this miracle happen for our Smilla? Can we ensure that she does not spend the winter in Romania and finally gets the great happiness that she deserves after all the bad things? We would be so happy for the pretty mouse. Now she is looking for a little bed and wants to conquer you and your family with a storm. Does she have the time, patience, and a big heart? Then please get in touch with us. Smilla will be dewormed, vaccinated, microchipped, treated for fleas, and leave Romania with an EU-Pass. … and will be rehomed with V. All our dogs come to Pottenstein and would also like to be picked up here.

About Smilla (w)

What life with Smilla (w) looks like

Smilla (w) is a small young adult mixed breed dog waiting at Tiernothilfe Casa Katharina e.V. in Nürnberg.

An young adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Smilla (w), answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Smilla (w)?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Tiernothilfe Casa Katharina e.V. handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Smilla (w) on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Smilla (w) if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Tiernothilfe Casa Katharina e.V. will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Smilla (w) already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Smilla (w) isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Tiernothilfe Casa Katharina e.V. early rather than rehoming privately; they know Smilla (w) and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
