Snickers

Mixed Breed · Male · Young · 1 year

Snickers came into our care in late May after conflicts with his partner animal at his previous home. Here we experience Snickers as a friendly little guy who approaches us openly. Snickers is looking for an appropriate home with at least one companion animal, large housing and daily outdoor time. The minimum requirements regarding the dimensions of the accommodations can be found here. Currently Snickers enjoys indoor keeping but can also be accustomed to outdoor keeping during warmer months. When kept outdoors, it must be noted that Snickers cannot dig his way out and protection from predators is necessary. Shade places must also be provided. Various retreat options such as sleeping burrows and structural elements for entertainment are a must. Since rabbits are not cuddly but observation animals, they prefer to spend time with their fellow animals rather than with humans. This breed originates from a breeding program. The breeding-related morphological and/or physiological changes can lead to behavioral disorders and are associated with physical suffering and pain for the animals. According to § 11b Animal Welfare Act, breeding such animals is prohibited. Lop rabbits suffer from the consequences of their bent ear canal: they tend to hearing problems, limited communication with fellow animals and have a significantly increased risk of ear and dental diseases. Regular veterinary ear and dental examinations, long-term medication therapy up to operations on the auditory canals may be necessary. Here you can find more information about the problems of lop rabbits. If animals suffer anatomically, it is a breeding program. As advocates for animals we reject this. Pet owners who support such breeding programs act irresponsibly.

About Snickers

What life with Snickers looks like

Snickers is a large young adult mixed breed rabbit waiting at Tierheim Hamburg in Hamburg.

Rabbits are social animals — most shelters recommend adopting them in bonded pairs rather than alone. They need fresh hay daily, several hours of out-of-cage time, and rabbit-safe spaces to explore. They live eight to twelve years, longer than many people expect.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Snickers, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Snickers?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Tierheim Hamburg handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Snickers on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Snickers if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Tierheim Hamburg will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Snickers already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most rabbits on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Snickers isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Tierheim Hamburg early rather than rehoming privately; they know Snickers and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
