Sniper

Mixed Breed · Male · Adult · 8 years

Sniper was tied up at the our shelter entrance with a note that listed his name, age, and breed. The owners could be traced, and we found out they wanted to get rid of the dog because they were overwhelmed with him. Still, there’s no reason to just abandon Sniper! Now, the mixed breed is waiting for new, responsible owners at our shelter. Sniper does indeed demand a lot from his people and is not suitable for beginner dog owners! While the male dog is friendly and people-oriented, he is also very energetic and excited. Therefore, the first task for his new owners will be to teach Sniper some calmness and establish clear rules in their living together. Absolutely taboo should be games and activities that push the dog further, like tug-of-war or ball games. Calm tracking games and other “brain work” are probably more suitable to help Sniper – along with extended walks – to cool down. Outdoors, Sniper is very interested in his surroundings; he gets excited quickly when he sees exciting stimuli like other dogs. With impatience, he whines and doesn’t understand why the other end of the leash is moving particularly slowly today… 😉 With the right portion of consistent training and enough dog experience, Sniper will surely become a pleasant companion. The path to getting there might be a bit longer for him than for other dogs, but we are sure that investing time and patience in Sniper will definitely be worthwhile. Where are the right people for our energy package? The behavior in family foster care can therefore differ from the descriptions.

About Sniper

What life with Sniper looks like

Sniper is a adult mixed breed dog waiting at Tierheim Zwickau in Zwickau.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Sniper, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Sniper?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Tierheim Zwickau handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Sniper on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Sniper if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Tierheim Zwickau will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Sniper already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Sniper isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Tierheim Zwickau early rather than rehoming privately; they know Sniper and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
