Snoopy

Mixed Breed · Male · Puppy · 4 months

Cats: Unknown, can be tested Snoopy has been waiting since summer 2022 for his chance. Together with his brother Shermy, he came to the shelter of our animal rescuer Virginia as a puppy, after being abandoned with only a few weeks of age. A German animal welfare association promised Virginia the adoption of the puppies once they were ready for travel arrangements. But this promise was repeatedly delayed – and eventually completely withdrawn. So Snoopy missed the cute "puppy window," in which dogs are more easily adopted, and was left behind. To this day, Snoopy is noticeably more insecure than his brother. He was already more reserved when he arrived at the shelter and had hardly had the opportunity to build trust with humans. It is not only the negative experiences that shape the dogs – but also what they never got to experience. In an overcrowded shelter, our animal rescuer simply lacks the time to give each individual dog human closeness and socialization. And so, many dogs become increasingly shy the longer they live in the shelter. Especially for the quieter ones, it is almost impossible to make progress – they withdraw, close themselves off more and more, until one wonders if they will ever get a chance. But: We believe in Snoopy. We see the longing in his eyes. We recognize his potential. He just needs one person who sees him. Someone who is willing to be patient, give him time, and build trust in small steps. We wish for Snoopy a quiet, rural home with dog-experienced people with a lot of empathy. People who can read a dog, who expect nothing but give everything – understanding, security, structure. There should not be small children in the household, but older children with dog experience from school age are possible. Also, a foster home would be a crucial first step to a better life for Snoopy. Snoopy has waited far too long. Please help us so that his waiting time ends soon. Strays & Stories e.V.‍Querdamm 1630855 LangenhagenAmtsgericht Region HannoverVereinsregister-Nr. About Snoopy

What life with Snoopy looks like

Snoopy is a large puppy/kitten mixed breed dog waiting at Strays & Stories e.V. in Langenhagen.

Puppies need routine, gentle socialization, and roughly two short outings a day for the first year. The first six months are the formative window — house-training, leash work, and quiet exposure to traffic, other dogs, and unfamiliar people happen now or not at all. Expect early-morning wake-ups and a few months of chewing.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Snoopy, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Snoopy?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Strays & Stories e.V. handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Snoopy on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Snoopy if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Strays & Stories e.V. will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Snoopy already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Snoopy isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Strays & Stories e.V. early rather than rehoming privately; they know Snoopy and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
