Snowy

Labrador Retriever · Female · Adult · 6 years

Snowy - a gentle dog is finally looking for her home. Snowy came to a Spanish animal shelter in August 2021. Previously, she was found on the street with her two puppies. A kind man took the small family into his garden to protect them from traffic and contacted the animal shelter. Shortly after, all three were able to move into a foster family. While Snowy's puppies quickly found loving families, Snowy lost her home and had to move into the animal shelter in August 2021. The sudden change from the safety of a home to the noisy and stressful environment of the shelter overwhelmed her greatly. Initially, she lived alone in a cage, later she shared an outdoor area with other dogs. Snowy gets along well with other dogs, but it became increasingly difficult for her to trust people. The ongoing stress intensified her fears, which were shown by barking and restlessness in the cage. In January 2024, Snowy was able to move into a foster family again to build up security and trust. Unfortunately, this environment with a lot of traffic and many stimuli was too stressful for her, so she returned to the animal shelter in April. To not leave Snowy in a cage again, Snowy was shortly afterwards moved to a quiet training residence in the countryside. There she is finally making progress, appears more relaxed and shows her friendly, gentle side while playing with other dogs. Snowy is now urgently looking for an experienced, patient family without children in a quiet, rural home with a garden. A confident, friendly male dog by her side would give her additional security. Snowy greets people she trusts very lovingly and affectionately. She needs time, understanding, and calmness to finally feel at home. If you would like to give Snowy the chance to finally gain trust and find a safe home, we would be very happy to hear from you. Snowy is waiting for people who can see her heart and show her that she is not alone anymore. Here is Snowy's video Here is Video 2

About Snowy

What life with Snowy looks like

Snowy is a adult labrador retriever dog waiting at SALVA Hundehilfe e.V. in Germany.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Snowy, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Snowy?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. SALVA Hundehilfe e.V. handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Snowy on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Snowy if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — SALVA Hundehilfe e.V. will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Snowy already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Snowy isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with SALVA Hundehilfe e.V. early rather than rehoming privately; they know Snowy and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
