Sony

Male · Kitten · 4 months

Special Feature: Free Roam. Our Sony is a distinguished tomcat with two sides like Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde. On one side, he is the totally cuddly Sony, affectionately snuggling up to someone and not wanting to let them go. He rubs against them at the leg, sometimes very persistently, and is a playful clown. On the other side, Sony is relatively unpredictable and could suddenly attack at any moment. Usually from behind, then with a targeted bite. What triggers him, we have not yet discovered. So far, we have not found a clear health-related reason for his attacks. CT scans showed no abnormalities, a few bothersome teeth were extracted, and struvite crystals were brought under control with special food. We are looking for people who have a lot of cat experience and are aware that they need to work with him. An area where he can retreat to would certainly be beneficial. Currently, he lives in a shared home with our Rogsana, with whom he gets along well. Other pairing attempts have shown that Sony is better suited as a single cat. Children should not live in the new home. This cat needs outdoor access.

Besonderes Merkmal: Freigang.

About Sony

What life with Sony looks like

Sony is a medium-sized puppy/kitten cat waiting at Tierheim Essen in Essen.

Kittens are tiny chaos engines for about six months and then mellow rapidly. They need two scheduled feedings, a litter box per cat plus one extra, and somewhere high to climb. Spay/neuter happens around six months — most shelters arrange this before adoption.

Note from the shelter: History of biting behavior, needs behavioral rehabilitation, struvite crystals requiring special diet, needs quiet environment and gradual introduction

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Sony, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Sony?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Tierheim Essen handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Sony on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Sony if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Tierheim Essen will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Sony already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most cats on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Sony isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Tierheim Essen early rather than rehoming privately; they know Sony and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
