adoption requirements adoption process Adopt this animal now! adoption requirements adoption process Sookie has found her people! Her story: Sookie is one of those female dogs with a gentle nature and loving personality that truly touches the heart. In the cramped and stressful environment of the shelter, she was constantly bullied by other dogs. Now, in her foster home in Cluj, she is finally blossoming a little. And we wish nothing more than for her to arrive at a place where she never has to feel overwhelmed again. Sookie shows incredible cuddliness, gentleness, and attentiveness to people. She enjoys being close, loves cuddle hours, and seeks the connection with "her" people. She generally gets along well with other animals, but she feels much more comfortable in the company of friendly, calm male dogs than with dominant female dogs. She would probably prefer to be a solo princess – finally in the spotlight without the fear of bullying. Even though Sookie currently lives in a foster home, one must assume that she must learn to live in a home from the ground up. She likely has no experience with life in a house, nor with everyday sounds like vacuum cleaners, TVs, or the clinking in the kitchen. House training, being alone, walking on a leash, or driving – she can't or can only do these in part. Her new people should be aware that Sookie needs time, patience, and loving guidance to find her way in her new world. Even though she has already passed puberty, there will be moments of insecurity or feeling overwhelmed. With a calm, stable environment, clear communication, and positive reinforcement, she will learn to build trust and gain security in her new everyday life. Those who are ready to walk this path with her will be rewarded with a loyal, sensitive female dog who simply wants to belong. Dog training classes, even after a certain period of adjustment, could also work positively for the new dog-human team and would certainly bring Sookie a lot of joy. Sookie travels neutered, microchipped, vaccinated, dewormed, and treated for fleas to her new home. She brings her EU pet passport and would be very happy to transition to a loving foster home as a stepping stone to her new life. Who will finally give Sookie the safe haven she so desperately craves? Many thanks to Tamara! You named Sookie. Date: 07.06.

Vielen Dank an Tamara! Du hast Sookie ihren Namen geschenkt. Stand: 07.06.2025

About Sookie

What life with Sookie looks like

Sookie is a adult mixed breed dog waiting at Ein Herz für Streuner e.V. in München.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Sookie, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Sookie?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Ein Herz für Streuner e.V. handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Sookie on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Sookie if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Ein Herz für Streuner e.V. will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Sookie already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Sookie isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Ein Herz für Streuner e.V. early rather than rehoming privately; they know Sookie and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
