Sowa

Mixed Breed · Female · Adult · 4 years

Description Our Spanish animal welfare workers report: The friendly Sowa with the white paws was found on the street in the south of Spain in October 2022 and brought to the animal shelter. She has been spending her days there for far too long and now desperately needs a loving and safe forever home. This heart dog will surely be a real treasure for her new owners! Sowa longs for affection and love, and needs some time to warm up to strangers. With familiar people, she is very trusting. We assume that with patience and time, Sowa will quickly integrate into her new home and trust her new owners! She gets along well with other dogs, except when it comes to food, which she fiercely defends, showing no playfulness... In this regard, she would be a great single dog, but she could also be kept with other dogs if this issue is not a problem for the (experienced) new owners. Update24.01.2026 During the cat test, she showed interest in the cats, also a bit excited. We imagine a cohabitation with cats for Sowa as rather difficult. 26.05.2025 New pictures and videos16.08.2024: 3 new videos23.11.2023 New video14.08.2023: Sowa was allowed to spend a weekend with a volunteer of the animal shelter to get to know her better and to get a corresponding great description. What does she like, what does she especially enjoy, what does she not like so much, we want to know all of this of course! Sowa did a great job! She lived there in a house with a family. She is very curious but also quiet. On the leash, she hardly pulls, unless she sees other dogs, then she can be a bit excited. But even in that situation, she can be recalled and reacts well. She is therefore very obedient and likes to cuddle! With Sowa, you have a great companion who follows her snout and never gets boring! This wonderful female dog simply deserves the chance of a home! 14.08.2023 New videos1.7.2023 New photos12.02.2023 New videos06.11.2022 New videos Please note:

About Sowa

What life with Sowa looks like

Sowa is a medium-sized adult mixed breed dog waiting at Tierischgeholfen e.V. in Germany.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Sowa, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Sowa?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Tierischgeholfen e.V. handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Sowa on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Sowa if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Tierischgeholfen e.V. will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Sowa already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Sowa isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Tierischgeholfen e.V. early rather than rehoming privately; they know Sowa and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
