Spikey

Mixed Breed · Female · Adult · 5 years

Spikey – a joyful, active companion seeks her home Spikey is a 5-year-old female dog with a balanced and friendly nature. She is mostly calm and cheerful, initially a bit shy, but she learns quickly and gains more confidence each day – also in city traffic, which still causes her a little concern. Currently, Spikey lives in a pension in Bulgaria. Now, she longs more than anything to exchange this for her own dog bed. Spikey is an active female dog who wants to experience a lot of things with her people. Long walks, exciting outings, and joint activities are exactly her thing. She loves being off-leash and sometimes chases birds, and she happily performs simple tasks for treats. Spikey comes reliably when called and walks nicely on a leash. She masters car rides without problems, even though she doesn’t particularly love them. In the company of other dogs and even cats, she shows herself to be social and open, but it can happen that she defends food or “her” people in the presence of other dogs. Therefore, it would be ideal for Spikey to live as a little princess in her new home. Spikey is house-trained and has already had some experience with a transport box. She still has a lot to learn, but with consistent, loving guidance and the right dose of affection, she will make rapid progress. With her cheerful, gentle nature and great willingness to learn, Spikey is a wonderful companion ready to go through life with her people. Perhaps she will soon win their hearts and find her permanent home with them? If you have serious interest in adopting Spikey, please contact the responsible mediator of the SALVA Dog Aid. We would also be very happy to provide a foster home.

About Spikey

What life with Spikey looks like

Spikey is a large adult mixed breed dog waiting at SALVA Hundehilfe e.V. in Germany.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. A larger dog like this one needs daily off-leash time when possible — a fenced yard or regular access to safe walking trails. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Spikey, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Spikey?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. SALVA Hundehilfe e.V. handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Spikey on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Spikey if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — SALVA Hundehilfe e.V. will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Spikey already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Spikey isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with SALVA Hundehilfe e.V. early rather than rehoming privately; they know Spikey and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
