Spud

Male Β· Young Β· 3 years

Spud is a chilled guy who loves a good fuss and should settle nicely into his new home! He requires a moderate amount of mental stimulation, so having some fun games and enrichment activities available for him will be beneficial. Spud can get a little vocal when he can see or hear people around his kennel, but generally has coped very well and shown lots of curiosity around exploring new environments. When being handled for harnessing or grooming, he can be a little avoidant but generally tolerates it very well, and even uses it as an opportunity to ask for cuddles from people he trusts! He has really come out of his shell during our time with us, and we're now seeing him show lots of friendliness and eagerness around meeting new people. Spud prefers some dogs over others but generally gets on with them well, so he will happily meet lots of other doggy friends when out and about. He is on a limited diet which will be discussed with his adopters upon meeting him, and doesn't seem overly fussed by treats or toys! Spud seems to be comfortable getting in and out of cars, but he can be sensitive to loud noises so we'd recommend walking him in quieter areas to keep him feeling safe and comfortable. Meet Spud, a Chow Chow crossbreed ready to find his forever home. Spud does enjoy having his own space, so any children in the home should be of secondary school age or older. Whilst he will need to be the only dog in the home, we have no history of his interactions with other animals so he could potentially be homed with them pending successful pre-adoption mixes. He is currently getting refreshed on all of his basic training and is making excellent process, and this should be continued in his new home. Spud is fairly relaxed and doesn't require his own private garden, so flat living would be suitable for him. Spud should be kept on lead in public at all times until he has learned his recall. He tends to get a little restless when left by himself, so he'll need lots of attention initially, and any hours left alone should be built up very slowly. Spud will be happy living in an open plan home and having regular visitors, provided they are mindful of his boundaries.

About Spud

What life with Spud looks like

Spud is a young adult dog waiting at Dogs Trust Salisbury in Newton Tony.

A young adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" β€” quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures β€” to let them settle.

πŸ‡¬πŸ‡§Adopting from United Kingdom

UK shelters work under the Pet Travel Scheme (post-Brexit, the EU pet passport is not valid; a UK Animal Health Certificate is required for travel into the EU). Most UK rescues focus on domestic placements but some work with EU partners.

Frequently asked

Adopting Spud, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Spud?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Dogs Trust Salisbury handles screening and the adoption contract directly β€” TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Spud on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Spud if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad β€” Dogs Trust Salisbury will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. UK adopters: post-Brexit travel into the EU requires an Animal Health Certificate. Transport is usually a separate cost, so ask for the exact figure before you commit.
Is Spud already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported β€” ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Spud isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work β€” that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Dogs Trust Salisbury early rather than rehoming privately; they know Spud and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (EN). Translation is imperfect β€” names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
