Adopt Star

Akita · Unknown

We are advertising this lovely lady on behalf of another rescue to help find her the perfect home. Star is almost two years old and truly lives up to her name. She’s a wonderful girl with a big heart and an even bigger love for people. Star originally came to rescue as a stray with some medical issues that were clearly affecting her comfort. She had severe entropion which was impacting her vision, along with an umbilical hernia. Both conditions have now been successfully treated and the difference in Star has been incredible. Since her surgery she has blossomed into a confident, happy dog who is enjoying life to the full. Now that she’s feeling better, Star absolutely loves getting out and about. She travels well in the car and has joined staff on trips into towns and cafés where she happily watched the world go by. She has even attended a motocross event where she confidently greeted lots of people and soaked up all the attention. She would suit someone active who would love a dog to accompany them on walks, outings and everyday adventures. People are definitely Star’s favourite thing. She adores fuss, cuddles and affection, often leaning her big squishy self into you for more. She can be enthusiastic when greeting and sometimes gets a little bouncy with excitement, but this is simply her joyful personality shining through. She is already responding well to guidance as we work on calmer, more polite greetings. Star is very food motivated and enjoys training, which makes her a great candidate for continued learning in her new home. She clearly enjoys having something to do and loves engaging with her people. Toys are another favourite of hers and she’s often proudly carrying one around. She’s also very talented at de-stuffing them, so future adopters may want to keep a sewing kit handy! Around other dogs, Star shows interest and is generally social, although she can become overexcited in busier situations. We are helping her develop calmer walking skills, and while she could have suitable dog friends out on walks, we feel she would be happiest as the only dog in the home for now. Because Star arrived as a stray, we don’t believe she has had much experience living in a typical home environment. She will benefit from patient introductions to household life and clear, consistent boundaries as she learns the rules. Things like sofa cushions may look suspiciously like toys at first, but with gentle guidance she will soon learn. Star will need a home without cats or small animals. Due to her size and bouncy enthusiasm, we feel she would be best suited to homes with older, dog-savvy children aged eight and over who will understand her excitable nature. Star is a big, loving sweetheart who simply wants to be close to her people and share in whatever they are doing. If you’re looking for an affectionate, fun companion who will happily join you on adventures and then settle down for cuddles afterwards, Star could be the perfect addition to your family.
