Zeus

Akita · Male · Young · 3 years

Say hello to our handsome boy, Zeus! Zeus is an Akita who was found as a stray with no known history, but during his time with wardens he was described as a friendly, well behaved boy with people! Since arriving on-site, he has displayed similar behaviour alongside typical kennel stress,. Zeus is a smart cookie and is responding well to ongoing stop-start and recall training. Mr. Zeus should be the only dog in the home, as both his limited history and current behaviour indicate he may not be comfortable living with other dogs, although he may be able to live with a dog savvy, independent cat as he has shown no chase behaviours in care, however we would only recommend this for extremely confident and dog savvy cats, and with owners who have owned this breed and successfully introduced them to cats. Zeus has shown himself to be a typical mature male Akita around other dogs, often keen to greet and displaying some social behaviours, however he can be quick to reprimand and has become stressed around them. Due to his breed type and behaviours around other dogs, new owners should be fully prepared to keep him on lead during walks. Zeus will also require access to his own private garden to support training away from busy inner city environments. As an Akita, he will need plenty of both mental and physical stimulation to prevent boredom and support his overall wellbeing. As is common with his breed, he can be sensitive to handling, sometimes becoming restless, bouncing around his kennel and panting, but he is making steady progress with training. Zeus would be best suited to an experienced home, ideally with knowledge of Akita's, where owners are confident in physically handling him and committed to continuing his training. About Zeus

What life with Zeus looks like

Zeus is a large young adult akita dog waiting at Battersea Dogs & Cats Home in London.

An young adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. A larger dog like this one needs daily off-leash time when possible — a fenced yard or regular access to safe walking trails. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇬🇧Adopting from United Kingdom

UK shelters work under the Pet Travel Scheme (post-Brexit, the EU pet passport is not valid; a UK Animal Health Certificate is required for travel into the EU). Most UK rescues focus on domestic placements but some work with EU partners.

Frequently asked

Adopting Zeus, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Zeus?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Battersea Dogs & Cats Home handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Zeus on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Zeus if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Battersea Dogs & Cats Home will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. UK adopters: post-Brexit travel into the EU requires an Animal Health Certificate. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Zeus already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Zeus isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Battersea Dogs & Cats Home early rather than rehoming privately; they know Zeus and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (EN). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
