Steffy

Mixed Breed · Female · Young · 3 years

Steffy, born 06/2023, is a delicate Shepherd mix, playful, friendly, and endowed with a big heart. At the shelter, she shows every day how much potential she has. She is wonderfully sociable with other dogs: she loves to play, takes her cues from them, and enjoys being close to them. Cats are no problem at all for Steffy the Shepherd mix. She lives together with her friend Carla in a shelter that actually specializes in dogs with disabilities, animals that need a great deal of care and attention. Carla and Steffy are healthy and very playful, but precisely for that reason they receive too little attention there, because the resources are needed for the dogs with disabilities. Steffy is still cautious around people, but not fearful. She has no issue being near people; she just doesn't yet know how wonderful it can be to allow closeness and build trust. Steffy needs time, patience, and people who show her that life outside the shelter is full of warmth, security, and lovely moments. A confident resident dog would be a great asset for Steffy. A dog who shows her how relaxed and natural living together with two-legged family can be would help her settle in faster and open up. Steffy loves to play, whether with her dog friends or with her toys. A house with a garden would be ideal so she can romp around and move freely. Attending a dog school would also be wonderful to build her self-confidence and grow together with her people. For Steffy we are looking for an active foster home or forever home, with people who enjoy explaining the world to a cautious dog. People who give her time to settle in, who guide her without overwhelming her, and who show her how beautiful a life of security can be. Steffy is a dog who will keep developing, step by step, with people who see her, understand her, and give her the space she needs. Whoever gives her this chance will gain a loyal, gentle, and playful companion who will blossom more with each day. Steffy is microchipped, vaccinated, and neutered, and will be placed after a positive pre-screening with a protection contract. Note regarding our animals: our dogs in Romania are visited regularly so that we can continually reassess their behavior and development. These personal impressions help us greatly in conveying as accurate a picture as possible of each individual dog. However, we would like to point out that a dog may behave differently in a new environment, with new people, new routines, and new impressions. This is entirely normal and part of any process of change. Many dogs open up even faster at home and show sides that were not visible at the shelter at all. Our assessments are therefore based on current observations but are not a guarantee of any behavior in a new environment. They are meant to provide guidance and show how the dog presents itself at the shelter, and what potential it holds. We are convinced that with patience, understanding, and a loving environment, every dog can find its way and develop positively.

Steffy, geb.

About Steffy

What life with Steffy looks like

Steffy is a large young adult mixed breed dog waiting at Vierbeiner in Not e.V. in Germany.

A young adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. A larger dog like this one needs daily off-leash time when possible — a fenced yard or regular access to safe walking trails. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Dogs and cats typically leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with an EU pet passport.

Frequently asked

Adopting Steffy, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Steffy?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Vierbeiner in Not e.V. handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Steffy on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Steffy if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Vierbeiner in Not e.V. will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Transport is usually a separate cost, so ask for the exact figure before you commit.
Is Steffy already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Steffy isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Vierbeiner in Not e.V. early rather than rehoming privately; they know Steffy and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
