Mixed Breed · Female · Adult · 6 years

Already another emergency call. When a concerned woman called me, reporting that an apparently sick female dog was wandering around on an unsecured property and she didn't know what to do, as help from another source had been denied, I immediately set out. Upon arrival, I saw a severely emaciated and likely older female dog in poor general condition. The brought food was devoured immediately, and she willingly got into the car. The first ride led us to our veterinarian. At the registration, I could then observe that countless springy creatures emerged from her heavily soiled fur. She was immediately given a flea treatment, and we also had a blood test done to check the condition of her internal organs. During the dental exam, the vet found large growths on the jaw and throughout the mouth. A horrifying sight. Additionally, biopsies were necessary for the enlargements, and we hope they are not tumors. We would also have liked to X-ray her hips, as the little mouse was walking very poorly. However, since this can only be done under anesthesia and her health condition does not allow it at the moment, we must wait. Upon returning home, I prepared a flea comb, household paper, and a bowl of water to continue the battle against the crawling creatures. I have certainly seen many feral dogs and cats before, but what was revealed was unprecedented. I removed thousands of fleas from the marked body, incredibly. The next day, it was still crawling, so the poor soul received a refreshing shower followed by combing. It was clear to see that "Name0," as the little one is now called, found this a great relief. We strongly suspect that Name0 was simply abandoned due to her age and health condition. She was neither microchipped nor wearing a collar. Inquiries at the nearby animal shelter and with the local authorities also proved fruitless. Of course, it is also possible that she escaped due to poor husbandry. For her luck, Name0 can now rest with us. She receives high-quality food, as she can only eat wet food due to the growths in her mouth. When she has gained a little weight, we will together with our veterinarian determine how she can be further assisted. Despite the grim history, Name0 is a very loving and clingy mouse who wants to be close to her people. We wish for her to spend a few more happy years with us, loved and cared for.

About Stella

What life with Stella looks like

Stella is a small adult mixed breed dog waiting at Kleiner Gnadenhof e.V. in Schwaan / OT Letschow.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Stella, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Stella?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Kleiner Gnadenhof e.V. handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Stella on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Stella if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Kleiner Gnadenhof e.V. will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Stella already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Stella isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Kleiner Gnadenhof e.V. early rather than rehoming privately; they know Stella and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
