Adopt Strolchi

Mixed Breed · Male · Senior · 12 years

shoulder height: 50 cm · With us since: 02.01.2023 We took our old grump bear Strolchi over from another animal welfare association. He is a nice, funny and friendly dog, as long as you don't expect anything from him. He lets himself be cuddled and loved by almost anyone, but even here, only when he feels like it. With this behavior, he has gotten along well in life. He has learned to growl and to accept human corrections well. We are working on changing this and many things are already going quite well. His main problems are physical manipulation by humans. This includes brushing, touching in the abdominal area or holding/raising his legs. Also, holding him by the collar was a big issue for him. Many of these things he now allows his trusted people to do. Despite his age, he is a smart guy who also likes to learn and wants to do something with humans. Besides cuddling, search games are his big passion. He does a lot for treats. Going for walks is not really his thing, rather rummaging around in the yard and barking at the dogs that pass by. He walks well on a leash. You have to watch out for cyclists, passing cars or joggers. Due to the training, he mostly passes them calmly. Strolchi is very important to him. This can be a hole in the ground he is digging in, his rug that he is chewing on, or other things he is working on. At our shelter, he is learning that he can have his things, but we still want to go past him without feeling his frustration. Our Strolchi has very good social behavior towards his fellow animals. He knows at which point he should give in and where he can correct occasionally. Therefore, we can imagine placing him with a confident, calm female dog. For Strolchi, we are looking for a ground-floor home, as he already has hip dysplasia, elbow dysplasia and arthritis. He gets his pain medication daily. His senior residence should be a house with a garden, maybe a single or two-person household. The people should be experienced with dogs and be familiar with dog body language. Strolchi is very clear here, so that it is easy to cooperate with him. There should be no children. We wish a loving forever home for Strolchi, but we can also imagine a foster home for him.

03841 - 79 01 79

About Strolchi

What life with Strolchi looks like

Strolchi is a large senior mixed breed dog waiting at Tierheim Dorf Mecklenburg in Germany.

Senior dogs settle in faster than younger ones. They want a soft bed, predictable meals, and short, sniff-heavy walks rather than runs. Many senior rescues bond deeply within weeks because they understand exactly how good a stable home is. Expect occasional vet visits for joint or dental care.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Strolchi, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Strolchi?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Tierheim Dorf Mecklenburg handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Strolchi on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Strolchi if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Tierheim Dorf Mecklenburg will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Strolchi already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Strolchi isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Tierheim Dorf Mecklenburg early rather than rehoming privately; they know Strolchi and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
