Adopt Struppi

Male · Young · 3 years

The cute Schnauzer-Mix has had a tough life in every other way. Born in January 2017, he was passed around from one place to another and reportedly also suffered from abuse. No wonder he is skeptical and insecure around people; children especially make him very afraid. On his daily walks, Struppi explores his surroundings curiously, runs well on the leash, and knows a few basic commands. However, he is also a bit skittish outside and will bark at other dogs to keep them at a distance. His past experiences are generally shown in his desire to keep everything unfamiliar away from him and his defense of his food and toys. Yet, he communicates clearly and can be corrected well by his handler during dog encounters. Struppi is definitely not a beginner dog. We wish for him people who understand his signals and know that his defensive posture results from insecurity and fear. People who can give him time, do not pressure or dominate him, convey security, stability, and trust, and spare him from scary situations. Consistent and clear leadership YES – Pressure and threats NO. Then, Struppi will gradually develop trust and love his people deeply. It will take time, but it will be worth it. If you are the person who wants to finally give Struppi a good life and bring the patience and prerequisites for it, please contact us by (mentioning your phone number) or call us during our business hours.

About Struppi

What life with Struppi looks like

Struppi is a medium-sized young adult dog waiting at Tierheim Düsseldorf in Düsseldorf.

An young adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

Note from the shelter: Resource guarding, fear-based reactivity, requires patient rehabilitation due to past abuse and neglect

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Struppi, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Struppi?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Tierheim Düsseldorf handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Struppi on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Struppi if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Tierheim Düsseldorf will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Struppi already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Struppi isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Tierheim Düsseldorf early rather than rehoming privately; they know Struppi and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
