Sugar

Female · Puppy · 5 months

Since: 28.5.2026 Features: No problem with children, knows cats and fellow animals, Personality: clingy, friendly, cuddly, sensitive, active Sugar's name is the Program. The little herding puppy is really absolutely sweet. clingy, cuddly, friendly, and a very gentle and delicate soul, she loves all people and other animals. Currently, she weighs about 5 kg and is around 30 cm tall and will likely grow to be a smaller herding dog. Her breed is unknown to us, but she cannot deny her herding heritage. She likes to have the other puppy buddies in the game driven in the right direction by targeted pokes to the hind legs. So far, she has not shown any specific breed-specific characteristics. She does not have a prey drive, nor is her watch or protective instinct pronounced, she is, however, basically still a baby. Sugar tends to stay back and in the background during chaos. She comes for cuddles and petting when the stress is over. Therefore, she is looking for a home where it is not too chaotic. Her herding instinct is present. She is not hyperactive. Nevertheless, she should be appropriately stimulated for her age and would be suitable for various dog-human activities. She is not a couch potato. Sugar knows cats, likes fellow animals, and has no problem with children, as long as it is not too stressful and chaotic, then she retreats. Relaxing evenings with her people cuddling on the couch after an active day in nature would be exactly what the little sweetie imagines. Sugar still has to learn everything. Being alone, walking on a leash, being house-trained, and basic commands are still completely foreign to her. Sugar is loyal and true and bonds closely with her people.

About Sugar

What life with Sugar looks like

Sugar is a small puppy/kitten dog waiting at Tierschutz Eutin und Umgebung e.V. in Eutin.

Puppies need routine, gentle socialization, and roughly two short outings a day for the first year. The first six months are the formative window — house-training, leash work, and quiet exposure to traffic, other dogs, and unfamiliar people happen now or not at all. Expect early-morning wake-ups and a few months of chewing.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Sugar, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Sugar?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Tierschutz Eutin und Umgebung e.V. handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Sugar on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Sugar if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Tierschutz Eutin und Umgebung e.V. will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Sugar already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Sugar isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Tierschutz Eutin und Umgebung e.V. early rather than rehoming privately; they know Sugar and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
