Adopt Sultan

Mixed Breed · Male · Puppy · 7 months

🐾 Meet Sultan🐾 Age: 29/09/2025 Breed: Mechelse herder Gender: Male Dog Neutered: No Description: Sultan was surrendered because his owner definitively moved to the countryside and could not take Sultan with him. He could be alone for a whole workday and was content, but he could always go in and out when he was alone. Behavior & Personality: Sultan is a young, enthusiastic cuddle bear! He was initially a bit unsure in new situations and with new people but quickly adapted. His unsure side is also noticeable on walks and manifests in reactivity towards other dogs and other things he finds exciting. This is something his future owners will need to work on. He has lived with other dogs and cats, and this went well. What does Sultan want? An active owner! A home with or without small children, older children who are comfortable around dogs is also possible. A meeting with his own dog is possible. A home with or without cats. Type of animal: Dog Gender: Male Age:. Not suitable for homes with cats.

Gedrag & Persoonlijkheid: Sultan is jonge, enthousiaste knuffelbeer! Soort dier: Hond Geslacht: Mannelijk Leeftijd: 29/09/2025

About Sultan

What life with Sultan looks like

Sultan is a small puppy/kitten mixed breed dog waiting at Pootjesparadijs Dierenopvangcentrum Zemst in Belgium.

Puppies need routine, gentle socialization, and roughly two short outings a day for the first year. The first six months are the formative window — house-training, leash work, and quiet exposure to traffic, other dogs, and unfamiliar people happen now or not at all. Expect early-morning wake-ups and a few months of chewing.

🇧🇪Adopting from Belgium

Belgian shelters operate under regional law (Flanders, Wallonia, Brussels each have their own rules). All adoptions include the Eurochip, vaccinations, and a stewardship contract. Several Flemish shelters partner with Dutch and German rescue networks.

Frequently asked

Adopting Sultan, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Sultan?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Pootjesparadijs Dierenopvangcentrum Zemst handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Sultan on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Sultan if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Pootjesparadijs Dierenopvangcentrum Zemst will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Sultan already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Sultan isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Pootjesparadijs Dierenopvangcentrum Zemst early rather than rehoming privately; they know Sultan and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (NL). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
