adoption requirements adoption process Adopt this animal now! adoption requirements adoption process Sultan can stay forever in his foster home! His story: Sultan is on the lookout for his very own kingdom, where can he arrive? The charming Sultan was discovered by one of our volunteer helpers in front of a supermarket. There, he followed every customer who came out of the store, probably in hopes of getting something from the shopping bags to satisfy his hunger. While initially amusing, it was dangerous for the little guy, as the supermarket is on a very busy street, where he would often follow passersby, thus posing a significant risk to Sultan. Now, although he is in our private shelter in Zalau, he longs more than anything for a family of his own. Sultan is an absolute example of how surprising a mixed breed can look. It seems Sultan is a mix of a large and a small dog breed. He is only 33 cm tall and weighs 11 kg. His short legs are, however, rather thick, and they must also carry a rather large head, which gives him a very funny and unique appearance. When Sultan frowns and tilts his head, it's hard to resist his charm. Sultan is exceptionally friendly. At first, it might happen that he barks, but he soon overcomes his skepticism and wants to be petted. And as often as possible. Sultan walks well on a leash and has no problem with the harness. However, it's clear that he's not familiar with it yet. He gets along well with other dogs, but whether that also applies to cats, we don't know. Sultan is looking for people who will give him some time to settle in and not expect much from him at first. He probably hasn't experienced much affection in his life and may not be familiar with home life yet. Potty training and home life are still unfamiliar to him. Even dog 1×1 training is something Sultan still needs to learn. He is already looking forward to long walks in nature and attending dog training classes, as well as a cozy spot in your home and your heart. Even though Sultan is no longer a baby, puberty has not been overcome yet. The time when everything is questioned and what one has ever learned is quickly forgotten. But it is well known that it is only a phase, and with much patience, consistent upbringing, and a touch of humor, you will surely overcome this time together. Sultan has packed his bags and is neutered, microchipped, vaccinated, dewormed, and treated for fleas. His EU pet passport is already in his luggage, so he can start his journey at any time. With your name sponsorship, you have given Sultan an identity and the chance at a happy dog life. As of: 05.10.

Stand: 05.10.2024

About Sultan

What life with Sultan looks like

Sultan is a medium-sized young adult mixed breed dog waiting at Ein Herz für Streuner e.V. in München.

An young adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Sultan, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Sultan?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Ein Herz für Streuner e.V. handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Sultan on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Sultan if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Ein Herz für Streuner e.V. will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Sultan already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Sultan isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Ein Herz für Streuner e.V. early rather than rehoming privately; they know Sultan and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
