Sumi

Mixed Breed · Female · Young · 1 year

Sumi was rescued from the Cornetu kill shelter in April 2025. A young, beautiful female dog who at first glance seems cheerful, open, and curious – and that is exactly what she is. Yet behind this first impression lies an inner conflict that is very clearly visible in her. Sumi is not shy, she is insecure. She wants to come to visitors, she wants contact, she wants closeness – you can see it in every one of her movements. But just at the moment when she wants to dare, she holds something back. Then she shows small displacement behaviors, because she cannot immediately decide whether she should really take the step. With people she already knows, she allows closeness. She permits careful lifting, seeks contact, and shows that she can and wants to – she just needs someone who will accompany her safely there. Someone who shows her that trust feels good and that she does not have to go through this inner conflict alone. Sumi gets along well with other dogs at the shelter. She takes her cues from them, stays friendly and social. What she truly lacks, however, is a person who gives her stability – someone who shows her how to make decisions, how to find courage, and how to move through a world that still holds so much that is new to her. Sumi is looking for patient, clear-minded people who will not pressure her, but also will not leave her alone. People who gently "take her by the hand," offer her guidance, and help her gain security step by step. She is a dog who wants to develop – and who has everything it takes to one day become a wonderful companion. Sumi is waiting for someone who will show her that her life does not have to consist of insecurity anymore. Perhaps you are exactly that person. Sumi will be placed by the animal welfare association Vierbeiner in Not e.V. after a positive preliminary check, vaccinated and microchipped. General note regarding our animals: Our dogs in Romania are visited regularly so that we can reassess their behavior and development again and again. These personal impressions help us greatly in conveying as accurate a picture as possible of each individual dog. However, we would like to point out that a dog may show a different side in a new environment – with new people, new routines, and new impressions. This is completely normal and part of every process of change. Many dogs open up even faster in a home and show sides that were not visible at the shelter at all. Our assessments are therefore based on current observations, but they are not a guarantee for every behavior in a new setting. They are meant to provide guidance and show how the dog presents itself at the shelter – and what potential lies within it. We are convinced that with patience, understanding, and a loving environment, every dog can find its way and continue to develop positively.

About Sumi

What life with Sumi looks like

Sumi is a young adult mixed breed dog waiting at Vierbeiner in Not e.V. in Germany.

A young adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Dogs and cats typically leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with an EU pet passport.

Frequently asked

Adopting Sumi, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Sumi?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Vierbeiner in Not e.V. handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Sumi on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Sumi if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Vierbeiner in Not e.V. will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Transport is usually a separate cost, so ask for the exact figure before you commit.
Is Sumi already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Sumi isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Vierbeiner in Not e.V. early rather than rehoming privately; they know Sumi and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
