adoption requirements adoption process Now request this animal! adoption requirements adoption process Suomi has found a new home! His story: Suomi was allowed to move into his home in November 2023. Unfortunately, he has had great difficulties with his primary caregiver's partner. Suomi reacts very insecurely to men, which is why he cannot stay there. At 1.5 years old, Suomi is a young, agile dog with a whole life ahead of him. He loves to run around in the garden, is very smart, and enjoys cuddle sessions with his primary caregiver. He can already drive well in a car and has a doggy buddy with whom he gets along great. He is in the middle of puberty and still has a lot to learn. Currently, his insecurity is still holding him back, but he is making many small progress. Now we are looking for, ideally, a women's household where he can simply feel comfortable and learn the world at his own pace. Although we do not know Suomi's parents, his noble appearance suggests that Labrador genes might play a role in his ancestry. Currently, he has a shoulder height of 57 cm and weighs 20 kg. It is likely that he will grow to be a perfect medium size. Like any other young dog, Suomi still needs the appropriate training. Fortunately, he is highly trainable, which should make this a not-too-big challenge. A good dog training class that exclusively uses positive reinforcement could provide valuable support and also create a wonderful opportunity to bond four-legged and two-legged family members through shared training. Even during the current pubertal phase, where the hormone chaos could make a small revolution in Suomi, one can benefit from this valuable bond and show the young pup understanding and unwavering support for the great inventions of "Sit," "Stay," and "Heel." Apart from being an additional paradise for his caring favorite people, Suomi would have extended walks for his active legs, entertaining brain games for his smart head, plenty of cuddles for his soul, and sometimes a treat – simply because he is loved. Suomi is microchipped, vaccinated, dewormed, flea-treated, and neutered. He has an EU pet passport and can travel after a positive our area. We would like to warmly thank Silvie S. for naming Suomi! Thanks to you, Suomi has his identity! As of: 08.07. This animal can be anxious in unfamiliar situations.

Stand: 08.07.2024

About Suomi

What life with Suomi looks like

Suomi is a large adult mixed breed dog waiting at Ein Herz für Streuner e.V. in München.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. A larger dog like this one needs daily off-leash time when possible — a fenced yard or regular access to safe walking trails. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Suomi, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Suomi?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Ein Herz für Streuner e.V. handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Suomi on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Suomi if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Ein Herz für Streuner e.V. will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Suomi already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Suomi isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Ein Herz für Streuner e.V. early rather than rehoming privately; they know Suomi and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
