It is a syndrome of acquired immunodeficiency, commonly called feline AIDS, because it resembles the human form of this disease. Cats with FIV can live with other FIV-infected cats, but also with healthy cats, provided the animals are calm and do not engage in aggressive fights. Only cats can be infected.
