Adopt Szarik

Male

Virtual Guardians are Beata and Michał. Szarik is approximately a 5-year-old puppy who arrived from Brańszczyk, Ojcowizny 24. The dog is emaciated and had a very large number of ticks on him. The dog was chained and muzzled – they were made into straps that wrapped around his entire emaciated body. We don't know if the puppy was chained to a tree and managed to free himself or if the pseudo-owner simply used straps from a real incident. One thing we are certain of is that this is animal cruelty towards our animal. So, if anyone among you recognizes Szarik, we very much ask for any information that will help us find the person who committed this terrible act. This beautiful dog is friendly towards people, showing no signs of aggression. Upon seeing someone approaching his bed, he immediately stands on alert to greet them and place his snout under their hand for petting. Szarik knows how to walk on a leash, is not afraid of it, and walks nicely with the caregiver without pulling or tugging. The puppy has a calm temperament, despite his size, and is as docile as a lamb. On the play area with the caregiver, he showed no interest in the other dogs that were nearby. We are looking for a responsible home for Szarik…a home where he will feel love and support…a home where he will feel safe and loved, where he will no longer experience any more harm.

About Szarik

What life with Szarik looks like

Szarik is a large adult dog waiting at Fundacja Przyjaciele Braci Mniejszych in Poland.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. A larger dog like this one needs daily off-leash time when possible — a fenced yard or regular access to safe walking trails. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇵🇱Adopting from Poland

Polish shelters maintain established transport routes to Germany, Netherlands, Austria, and Sweden. Animals leave sterilized and chipped. Adoption fees are typically lower than in Western Europe (often €50–€150) but adopters cover transport.

Frequently asked

Adopting Szarik, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Szarik?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Fundacja Przyjaciele Braci Mniejszych handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Szarik on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Szarik if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Fundacja Przyjaciele Braci Mniejszych will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Szarik already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Szarik isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Fundacja Przyjaciele Braci Mniejszych early rather than rehoming privately; they know Szarik and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (PL). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
