Adopt Tabaluga

European Shorthair · Male · Adult · 5 years

Tabaluga was originally found and, despite an intensive search, unfortunately missed by no one. Last year, he had the opportunity to move to a wonderful family who lovingly welcomed him. This makes it all the more difficult for everyone involved to return him to us with a heavy heart. In his previous home, Tabaluga unfortunately exhibited noticeable behavior at times: he urinated on furniture – both in his own household and at the neighbors. A comprehensive veterinary examination ruled out any health-related causes. We now know: Tabaluga is a particularly sensitive fellow who reacts very strongly to changes and stress. For him, we are looking for a quiet, stable home without other animals and without young children – ideally with free access in a rural setting and little neighborhood. Tabaluga is an enchanting tomcat – stunningly beautiful, cuddly, and deeply lovable. He needs people with patience, sensitivity, and understanding for his sensitive soul. Whoever gives him this secure framework will be rewarded with a very special companion. Tabaluga so deserves to finally find a place where he can feel at home – in a home that provides him with support and accepts him as he is. If you would like to give a loving home to a young tomcat with a big heart and a bit of sensitivity, then why not get to know our Tabaluga? Update: Since Tabaluga has been with us – mid-June – he has only marked once within the first week. Since then, he has been absolutely clean. Who will give this great guy a chance? In cats, such behavior is often situation-dependent. Please fill out the interest form via "Katze anfragen." This way, we have all the relevant information for an initial conversation. This cat needs outdoor access.

About Tabaluga

What life with Tabaluga looks like

Tabaluga is a large adult european shorthair cat waiting at Tierheim Ludwigshafen in Ludwigshafen/Rheim.

An adult cat usually shows their personality within a week. Give them a quiet room with everything they need (food, water, litter, hiding spot) and let them choose when to explore. Don't force interaction — every cat decides for themselves when a new home counts as home.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Tabaluga, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Tabaluga?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Tierheim Ludwigshafen handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Tabaluga on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Tabaluga if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Tierheim Ludwigshafen will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Tabaluga already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most cats on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Tabaluga isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Tierheim Ludwigshafen early rather than rehoming privately; they know Tabaluga and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
