Tabu

Mixed Breed · Male

Tabu is a sweet, cuddly cat who loves to lounge around (but not too long). He doesn't necessarily need other cats/cats - after the initial shy-sweet adjustment period, he starts chasing them... if they show fear. But it works if the existing cat is confident, relaxed, playful and not too sensitive 😉 Then they play together. He likes to give his dog head rubs and also sleeps next to him. Tabu wants to be a "felt single pasha" and chill for hours. He's not for small children, as he's anxious and startled by loud or sudden surprises. He's used to indoor living and exudes a cozy calm. He's also used to outdoor time, but doesn't miss it and doesn't try to escape the door at his foster home. His name comes from the time: "Here you can pet me, here is taboo, here too, here too..." 😉 We call him Tábu 🙂 The cuddly cat wants a meeting to be arranged so he can be there in person at the shelter. I need a financial partial-team sponsor who can cover 50 € per month for me!

DE·Show original

About Tabu

What life with Tabu looks like

Tabu is a small adult mixed breed cat waiting at Tierschutzverein Sadelkow - Gnadenhof Sonnenschein e.V. in Datzetal.

An adult cat usually shows their personality within a week. Give them a quiet room with everything they need (food, water, litter, hiding spot) and let them choose when to explore. Don't force interaction — every cat decides for themselves when a new home counts as home.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Dogs and cats typically leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with an EU pet passport.

Frequently asked

Adopting Tabu, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Tabu?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Tierschutzverein Sadelkow - Gnadenhof Sonnenschein e.V. handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Tabu on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Tabu if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Tierschutzverein Sadelkow - Gnadenhof Sonnenschein e.V. will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Transport is usually a separate cost, so ask for the exact figure before you commit.
Is Tabu already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most cats on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Tabu isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Tierschutzverein Sadelkow - Gnadenhof Sonnenschein e.V. early rather than rehoming privately; they know Tabu and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
