Taiko

Mixed Breed · Male · Adult · 4 years

We are often asked why we insist on certain procedures during our adoptions. We should actually be glad when a dog leaves the animal shelter. However, the reality of animal protection in Southern Europe, where such measures do not exist, proves again and again how necessary this effort is to ensure that none of our four-legged friends end up as a trophy or a permanent guest at the animal shelter. Taiko is a beautiful, delicate, and very elegant Podenco, and he did not come from a hunter, unlike many of our red-nosed bat-eared dogs. Taiko had a family that adopted him as a puppy, but since he is no longer a playful young dog, they lost interest in their dog. In the last few months, Taiko spent more time alone in the apartment than playing outside, he no longer saw his friends and became increasingly sad. To his family, he became even less interesting, and in April 2022, Taiko stood in front of Arca Sevilla with his people and was given up. The three-year-old male dog (as of 05/2022) initially did not understand that he would no longer be picked up and waited for the return of his two-legged companions, but he has now come to terms with his fate. Taiko is a kind, balanced athlete who loves to play and, of course, sprints like a world champion, typical of his breed. He loves people and waits every day for the volunteers to come to the animal shelter, where he does not understand why his friends have to first take care of feeding and cleaning before they can pet and play with him. Our soft-spoken charm needs a real home again, where he is loved and spoiled, where he can have adventures every day, find friends to play with, and simply be a dog. Of course, we also hope for people for him who can promise him that he will never be dumped again. Taiko is looking forward to soon getting into a transport vehicle toward new happiness, and we look forward to pictures of the heartbreaker conquering his new home, your heart, and the couch!.

About Taiko

What life with Taiko looks like

Taiko is a adult mixed breed dog waiting at Tierschutzverein ARCA e.V. in Gernsbach.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Taiko, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Taiko?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Tierschutzverein ARCA e.V. handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Taiko on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Taiko if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Tierschutzverein ARCA e.V. will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Taiko already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Taiko isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Tierschutzverein ARCA e.V. early rather than rehoming privately; they know Taiko and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
