Taio

Mixed Breed · Male · Puppy · 6 months

Part-time or full-time home sought – sensitive heart dog with great potential Location: Basel area in Switzerland (preferred, but open to other regions) Type of adoption: Part-time or full-time adoption possible (part-time adoption preferred) Age: Born around early June 2022 Size/Weight: Medium-sized, around 23 kg Breed: Mixed breed with sheep-like characteristics Vaccinated & microchipped: Yes Taio is a very special dog – a curious, playful, and sensitive male dog, a cheerful chatterbox with a charming nature that often puts a smile on your face. He was adopted from Romania in December 2022 – at the time, he was around 6 months old. Since then, he has been living with his current guardian in the Basel area. During this time, he has made great progress and shown how willing to learn, people-oriented, and sensitive he is. His development shows: With patience, clarity, and loving guidance, Taio can flourish and build a deep bond. What should one know about Taio? Taio has a very fine nervous system. He gets stressed easily, is more anxious, and is overwhelmed in busy environments – especially with many stimuli, children, or unexpected noises and movements. In new situations, he often reacts insecurely or impulsively. Due to his high stress level, he tends to pull on the leash and needs a sensitive, sovereign primary caregiver who supports him in regulating his stress levels. Being alone is harder for him, as he prefers to be with his primary caregiver or family 24/7. Therefore, he cannot be left alone at a new place without training. With careful building, structure, and conditioning, he can manage to be alone for 4–6 hours in a familiar environment. • Taio is compatible with dogs without a leash, but he is unsure with unfamiliar dogs on a short leash. Taio is used to dogs. He visited a doggy daycare twice a week. • A sovereign second dog could give Taio more security and orientation (e.g., during alone time, in everyday situations) – but this is not a prerequisite. The dynamics must match. • Cat compatibility: No. He would hunt the cats. • Children: Taio is afraid of children and prefers to avoid them. What does Taio want? A home in a quiet environment – ideally in a rural setting or with its own entrance (no busy ring-hoarding apartment building), where he can relax. Important are: • Routine, structure, and safety in everyday life • An experienced primary caregiver, ideally with knowledge in handling sensitive, anxious dogs or herding dogs • No children or cats • Patience, time, and joy in training (clear, positive, and lovingly guided) • Relief during alone times – e.g., through flexible work, home office, etc. • People who are content to spend time with Taio mainly in nature and at home and do not expect him to be everywhere and come along. Part-time or full-time adoption – what does that mean? The current guardian most wishes for a part-time or co-adoption, where Taio gets a second stable home – but his current guardian can still remain in his life, e.g., through regular daily care or walks. This could look like: • You offer Taio a permanent, quiet home • The current primary caregiver stays in contact and supports regularly (e.g., Taio stays with the current guardian for several days and the rest of the week with the new guardians). • It is discussed with the new primary caregiver(s) how it best fits for all parties involved. • A kind of living place with support and connection. This solution would be ideal and is preferred because it allows Taio a gentle transition and maintains the existing bond. Should no suitable co-adoption arise, a full surrender to loving and competent hands is also possible – provided the new home truly fits him and his needs are understood. Taio brings so much – when he feels safe, he shows his cheerful, smart, active, and cuddly side. Following are some photos of Taio. For serious interest or additional questions, please send a message to: or “Taio is not a dog for everyone – but he is exactly the right dog for someone who sees him for who he is: sensitive, smart, alert, active, cuddly. I wish for him a place where he can simply be a dog – without too much hustle, but with a lot of heart.”

Was sollte man über Taio wissen? About Taio

What life with Taio looks like

Taio is a medium-sized puppy/kitten mixed breed dog waiting at Stiftung Paradiesli, Tierheim für Ob und Nidwalden.

Puppies need routine, gentle socialization, and roughly two short outings a day for the first year. The first six months are the formative window — house-training, leash work, and quiet exposure to traffic, other dogs, and unfamiliar people happen now or not at all. Expect early-morning wake-ups and a few months of chewing.

🇨🇭Adopting from Switzerland

Swiss shelters require a home visit (Platzkontrolle) and proof of suitable accommodation. Cantons each have their own additional dog-keeping requirements (e.g. SKN training in some areas). Animals leave sterilized and chipped.

Frequently asked

Adopting Taio, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Taio?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Stiftung Paradiesli, Tierheim für Ob und Nidwalden handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Taio on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Taio if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Stiftung Paradiesli, Tierheim für Ob und Nidwalden will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Taio already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Taio isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Stiftung Paradiesli, Tierheim für Ob und Nidwalden early rather than rehoming privately; they know Taio and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
