Adopt Taipei

Shar Pei · Male · Young · 1 year

Taipei - a sensitive Shar-Pei is looking for understanding home. Taipei is a beautiful male dog of the Shar-Pei breed who was recently taken in at a Spanish animal shelter. The new environment has initially unsettled him - he is currently still shy and reserved and needs time to process everything. He prefers to observe from a safe distance rather than approach people directly. We hope that with some acclimation time, Taipei will begin to open up and gain trust. There is certainly a calm and loyal companion in him who simply needs people who meet him with patience, understanding, and empathy. A quiet home without much commotion would make starting a new life much easier for him. Like many of his breed, Taipei may have certain health characteristics that should be considered. Currently, none are visible, but regular care and check-ups are important to ensure his well-being in the long term. The Shar-Pei is one of the so-called vulnerable breeds. The typical skin folds of the breed have been deliberately intensified over generations - often at the expense of the animals' health. This can lead to skin irritations, inflammations, or other breed-specific diseases. Therefore, Taipei needs people who are aware of this responsibility and are willing to accompany him medically if needed. For more information, visit our information page. We wish Taipei a loving home with people who give him time to adjust and accept him as he is. Experience in dealing with sensitive dogs is helpful but not a requirement - what matters more are patience, calmness, and a big heart. Taipei deserves to finally find security and a sense of belonging.

About Taipei

What life with Taipei looks like

Taipei is a large young adult shar pei dog waiting at SALVA Hundehilfe e.V. in Germany.

An young adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. A larger dog like this one needs daily off-leash time when possible — a fenced yard or regular access to safe walking trails. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Taipei, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Taipei?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. SALVA Hundehilfe e.V. handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Taipei on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Taipei if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — SALVA Hundehilfe e.V. will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Taipei already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Taipei isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with SALVA Hundehilfe e.V. early rather than rehoming privately; they know Taipei and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
