• Need a quiet environment: No • Can live in the city: Yes • Get along with families: No • Can get along with other dogs: Yes • Have lived with cats: No, but in the shelter kennel I have been mostly ignored by cats • I have the following special characteristics regarding temperament or breed traits: I don't like males much and my trust has to be earned • Things to note regarding my health: No • The following health procedures have been done for me: No • Have lived in home environments in foster care: Yes • Have been in the shelter kennel for over 2 years: Yes • Can walk on a leash: Yes • (Other): I am Takis, Zau to everyone! I had my own home and people, but they decided that it was time for me to leave. Since I am a bit of a tough one, I could sometimes bite them if I felt like it, not very gently. So they called the shelter kennel to come and take this trouble maker away. So I moved here to the shelter kennel. At first I even tested the garden group, what they thought if I was a bit grumpy, but suddenly I realized that they didn't care at all. It went completely against the grain and I wasn't interested in showing off anymore. I get along with everyone here. I'll now tell you a secret. The truth is, I have never once seen anyone in the shelter kennel. These familiar caretakers, in fact. When I get in favor, I am a real lover boy. Visitors do scold me, of course, and I might even try to bite, but if a visitor understands how to speak calmly and gives me a treat, I calm down and start wagging my tail.

About Takis

What life with Takis looks like

Takis is a small adult mixed breed dog waiting at Pet Rescue Finland in Helsinki.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

Note from the shelter: Distrustful of men, requires patient introduction to new people, has history of nipping strangers

🇫🇮Adopting from Finland

Finnish shelters require a home visit and an adoption contract. Animals are vetted; the EU pet passport covers cross-border travel within the bloc.

Frequently asked

Adopting Takis, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Takis?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Pet Rescue Finland handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Takis on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Takis if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Pet Rescue Finland will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Takis already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Takis isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Pet Rescue Finland early rather than rehoming privately; they know Takis and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (FI). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
