Takkie

European Shorthair · Female · Adult · 4 years

Hi I'm Takkie and I'm 8 years old. I know what you're thinking, Takkie is a dog, right? Well sometimes not and I'm just a beautiful cat. You know what, I'm not as stubborn and independent as Siepie. I'm more social like Takkie. That's also why I think the name fits me. The biggest difference between Takkie the dog and me is that I'm not so child-friendly. Young children excite me a lot and that's also the reason I was brought to the animal shelter. I couldn't get used to living with a young child. And then there was another one... I prefer being around adults. Then I'm a real mellow cat who comes for cuddles with everyone and often rubs against you or sits on your lap. I like to be petted and can purr like the best. I'm afraid of cats and I would also like to live somewhere where I don't meet neighborhood cats in my own garden. Furthermore, I would like my owner to be regularly at home, that's quite nice. Takkie gets a bladder diet.

Takkie krijgt blaasdieet.

About Takkie

What life with Takkie looks like

Takkie is a small adult european shorthair cat waiting at Dierentehuis Stevenshage Leiden in Leiden.

An adult cat usually shows their personality within a week. Give them a quiet room with everything they need (food, water, litter, hiding spot) and let them choose when to explore. Don't force interaction — every cat decides for themselves when a new home counts as home.

🇳🇱Adopting from Netherlands

Dutch shelters typically require a household assessment and an adoption contract. Animals are routinely sterilized, microchipped, and registered in the national pet database (NDG) before placement.

Frequently asked

Adopting Takkie, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Takkie?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Dierentehuis Stevenshage Leiden handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Takkie on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Takkie if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Dierentehuis Stevenshage Leiden will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Takkie already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most cats on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Takkie isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Dierentehuis Stevenshage Leiden early rather than rehoming privately; they know Takkie and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (NL). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
