Adopt Talia

American Staffordshire Terrier · Female · Senior · 9 years

In the animal shelter since: 17.01.2026, Privatabgabe Kinderfreundlich: unbekannt Verträglich mit anderen Hunden: je nach Sympathie Katzenfreundlich: unbekannt prey drive: stark Talia is a very lively, affectionate female dog - she would do anything for her person (unless there's a deer in sight - then that's more interesting ;)). She doesn't necessarily need to have other dogs, as we still don't know how she reacts to cats in direct contact. We now know that she has a food intolerance - currently, she only eats horse food. If she eats anything else (even treats), she reacts allergically, which shows by her nose, paws, and belly turning red and a slight rash forming. For Talia, we are looking for a home where she ideally lives as a single princess. She wants to accompany her person as much as possible, as she has a big separation anxiety. However, she also builds trust with strangers quickly once the initial skepticism is overcome. Her primary caregiver wants her to accompany her as much as possible because she can't stay alone at all. Once the initial skepticism is overcome, she also builds trust with strangers quickly. Therefore, it shouldn't be a problem to place her for a few hours with a few well-chosen acquaintances. :). This animal is good with children. Gets along with other dogs.

About Talia

What life with Talia looks like

Talia is a medium-sized senior american staffordshire terrier dog waiting at Tierheim Wels in Wels.

Senior dogs settle in faster than younger ones. They want a soft bed, predictable meals, and short, sniff-heavy walks rather than runs. Many senior rescues bond deeply within weeks because they understand exactly how good a stable home is. Expect occasional vet visits for joint or dental care.

Note from the shelter: Food allergy - can only eat horse meat based food. Has severe separation anxiety and cannot be left alone. Strong hunting drive.

🇦🇹Adopting from Austria

Austrian shelters follow the federal Tierschutzgesetz framework: adopters sign a Schutzvertrag (protection contract) committing to the animal's welfare. Spay/neuter, microchip, and vaccinations are included; fees typically range €150–€350.

Frequently asked

Adopting Talia, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Talia?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Tierheim Wels handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Talia on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Talia if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Tierheim Wels will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Talia already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Talia isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Tierheim Wels early rather than rehoming privately; they know Talia and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
