Tammy

Unknown · Adult · 5 years

Tammy is not being fostered through RiesenSchnauzerNothilfe, but through: Grund zur Hoffnung e.V. Email: Homepage: Our lovely Tammy is spayed, approximately 57cm tall, originally from Bulgaria, but is already in foster care in 27211 Basum, Germany. She is currently being reported by her foster carer as follows: September 22, 2026 Tammy is slowly starting to come around, although she has been a bit more timid over the last few days. She has made some progress and now considers the house a safe haven: at least the boxes and the rug under our dining table. It used to be a bush in the garden, but she will definitely need more time as her skepticism towards humans is still a major obstacle. She gets along great with our pack. She has even asked to play a few times. The cats are completely uninteresting to her, she is superbly housebroken and she is happy when we leave her alone with the others. When we return, she is a bit upset, but then quickly calms down. She really enjoys a few meters into the field in the company of a person and a dog. She really comes alive. Even in the garden, when she feels she is unobserved, she is quite lively. The first visit was not a problem as long as it was discreet. And she follows us beautifully through the house and the garden. When we sit, she seeks our company and lies down next to the chair. Only when we move from a to b with intention are we still creepy... But she is only just over a week with us. It is completely normal for the dogs to take some time to orient themselves and get to know us. About Tammy

What life with Tammy looks like

Tammy is a adult dog waiting at Riesenschnauzer Nothilfe e.V. in Germany.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Tammy, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Tammy?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Riesenschnauzer Nothilfe e.V. handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Tammy on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Tammy if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Riesenschnauzer Nothilfe e.V. will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Tammy already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Tammy isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Riesenschnauzer Nothilfe e.V. early rather than rehoming privately; they know Tammy and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
