Tana

Border Collie · Female · Adult · 5 years

Tana – clever beauty with a gentle soul Tana is a beautiful Border Collie-female dog with a keen gaze and a sensitive heart. She brings everything one could wish for in a Border Collie: intelligence, work ethic, and the desire to please her human. At the same time, she needs time to build trust – she can be reserved, especially with men, at first. Women, however, often find her more approachable, but she should be given the opportunity to come at her own pace. Tana is initially cautious and critical with humans. She observes carefully and decides for herself whom she will open up to. Those who can read her signals and meet her with calmness and respect will gradually earn her trust. Therefore, we are looking for dog-experienced people who understand dog language, can communicate sensitively with her, and give her the necessary security. Once Tana has gained trust, she becomes clingy, cuddly, and loyal. For Tana, it is important to have a meaningful task – very much like a Border Collie, she wants to think along, contribute, and be supported. Whether joint training, head work, dog sports, or long walks: Tana wants to be physically and mentally challenged. She gets along well with other animals; a confident second dog could even help her gain security. For a life in a quiet, structured environment with understanding people, Tana would be ideally suited. Those who take her in will get a very special companion with great potential – she just needs the chance to show it. Tana would also be very happy in a foster home.

About Tana

What life with Tana looks like

Tana is a adult border collie dog waiting at SALVA Hundehilfe e.V. in Germany.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Tana, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Tana?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. SALVA Hundehilfe e.V. handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Tana on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Tana if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — SALVA Hundehilfe e.V. will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Tana already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Tana isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with SALVA Hundehilfe e.V. early rather than rehoming privately; they know Tana and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
