Adopt Tapi

Mixed Breed · Male · Senior · 11 years

Tapi is a Shar-Pei mix, probably born in 2015, who was found abandoned in a nearby village. When he was first brought to the shelter, he showed very unpredictable and aggressive behavior towards the staff. Tapi has a biting history and is known to snap when he feels uncomfortable with a caregiver or attendant. Due to his size, his bites can be dangerous, which is why the shelter team believes he is not suitable for regular adoption. At the shelter, Tapi has developed a close bond with one of the staff members and is loyal and faithful to him. He actively seeks petting and attention and can never get enough of it. When new people are introduced by his preferred caretaker, Tapi - although he remains selective - may sometimes adjust to them. However, he is easily startled, and sudden movements or too direct approaches can cause him to react with barking. We do not know what traumas he may have experienced in the past, but he has difficulty trusting people. Although Tapi is not available for general adoption, an exception could be made for extremely experienced dog trainers who are willing and able to work with him. The conditions for this are: Even if it were a dream come true, giving Tapi a chance at rehabilitation, it is more likely that he will spend the rest of his life at the shelter.

About Tapi

What life with Tapi looks like

Tapi is a large senior mixed breed dog waiting at Animal Care Hungary.

Senior dogs settle in faster than younger ones. They want a soft bed, predictable meals, and short, sniff-heavy walks rather than runs. Many senior rescues bond deeply within weeks because they understand exactly how good a stable home is. Expect occasional vet visits for joint or dental care.

🇭🇺Adopting from Hungary

Hungarian shelters operate at high capacity given the country's stray population. Animals leave sterilized, chipped, and with a passport. Many shelters coordinate transport to Germany, Austria, and the Nordics.

Frequently asked

Adopting Tapi, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Tapi?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Animal Care Hungary handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Tapi on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Tapi if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Animal Care Hungary will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Tapi already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Tapi isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Animal Care Hungary early rather than rehoming privately; they know Tapi and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (HU). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
